NRA PPOH Class Reminder

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

The NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Class will be held on Saturday, May 5th and May 12th. The class material has been ordered, so I won't be able to add anymore people.

I don't want to post real names here, so send me a PM or email if you want to verify that you are registered.

Charles,

If we're going to spend most of the 12th at the range, I imagine we'll need a lot of ammo. I need to start stocking up. How much will we need to bring?

Scott, I think 200 rds will be fine for the first Saturday (5/5/07). But on the 12th, we'll be spending 5 hours on the range. I'll look at the range drills again and give you a better number when I get home tonight.

You shouldn't need more rounds that you can carry in a wheelbarrel (5 yard) :twisted:
Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.

Now here's a man that doesn't want to get killed "for a lack of shoot'n back."

Also, please remember that we're planning to order pizza to be delivered to the range for lunch.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

Here's an update on the ammo requirement for the first day of the PPOH class. The absolute minimum is 100 rds, so I think my suggestion of 200 rds is reasonable. I forgot to check on the second day (5/12/07) which is 5 hrs. on the range. I'll look tonight, if I don't have a "Sometimers" moment.

UPDATE

Reminder: The PPOH class this Saturday will begin at 8:30 and will end at approximately 5:30.

Be sure to bring a strong-side holster, either IWB or OWB. No shoulder holsters, SOB's, or cross-draw holsters. Purse holsters are fine.

Also, as Venus mentioned, we are going to order pizzas for lunch and have them delivered to the range.

Just curious, since it'll be a might warmer than the PPOH class was (ah, Houston in the summer is on the way), should we worry about concealment, or is that not an issue? Just wondering what to pack...

See ya Saturday.

Charles,

You mentioned during the PPIH course that you would be doing the same discussion on the "legal portion" in the PPOH class and that you'd let us know when you plan to do this portion so we could skip this section if we wanted. Do you know when you'll be going over this......beginning or end of the day? Just curious, cause if you're doing it in the morning I won't feel so rushed to get to PSC, which is on the opposite side of Houston.

Yes, concealment is use for part of the course, but not all. Even an unbuttoned shirt worn over a T-shirt will work. We'll be using a concealment garment much more in Lesson VII on 5/12.

I can't believe you just told everyone on an open forum that you don't want to hear "Cotton on the Law" again! :totap: I'm just kidding.

Thanks for reminding me about this. Yes, I will be doing the legal part of the course (Lesson III) first, beginning at 8:30 am. My Deadly Force & It's Aftermath seminars typically run about 2 1/2 hrs. depending upon the number of questions from the audience. The NRA PPOH Course calls for a minimum of 1 hr for the legal portion, but I can't begin to cover the topic in that little time. So, I'm planning to spend 2 hours on it this Saturday.

People who attended the PPIH last month can skip the legal presentation and come at 10:30 am.

Gulf Fwy. Construction Saturday

#15

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

The Gulf Fwy (I-45) construction is going to be a problem again this weekend. Southbound traffic will be routed to the feeder at NASA Rd. One, so traffic will be terrible!

I suggest that people coming southbound on I-45 to NASA Road One, exit at 2351 instead. If you want to take this route, here are the directions:

Southbound on I-45 and exit on FM 2351;
Turn right on FM 2351 and go to Fm 518;
Turn left on FM 518 and go to FM 528;
Turn right on FM 528 (a/k/a Parkwood) and go to the range.
