Distance one way to Las Vegas is approx 1500 miles. We left Galveston with a full tank of gas at 11:30AM CST Friday afternoon and got to our resort in Las Vegas by 1:30PM PST Saturday.
If anyone wonders the kind of mileage a Honda Odyssey gets on a long trip like this, it's 24.1 MPG. It ranges from 18.1 MPG traveling in town in traffic at the strip to 32 MPG with cruise control on mountainous terrains 7000 feet above sea level.
Our pistols of choice for the next 4 days. Glock 17 with 3.5# connector and a bone stock Springfield Pro.
Here are our instructors on Range 7 / 18: Jenny and Jeff. Both every competent in what they do. Jeff is carrying a 1911 and Jenny is carrying a Glock
Jeff demonstrating on how to do a chamber check / mag check on various pistols. He borrowed a student's Sig.
Finger straight and out of the way before moving the slide back slightly to check chamber.
Here he is demonstrating on a PX4
Ahhhh. The 1911. Everything becomes so clear. :notworthy:
The ready stance
Chamber check
Magazine check with finger indexing the first round.
The most effective method to rack the slide and chamber a round.
Support hand hitting your clavicle to ensure your hand is no where near the muzzle.
Explanation of sight alignments.
And this is where you want it. Center of the Thoracic Cavity.
My partner Vince taping up target.
Making sure the hardware is shooting straight before the actual training.
Making sure the sights are aligned correctly. They are.

Taking the shooter error out of the equation. Instructor pressing the trigger.
Interpreting the shots landed on paper.
Scott explaining the type of doo-dads you want and don't want on your defensive weapons.
Color code of awareness. I teach this in my CHL classes as well.
Our Range Master Wayne. He's a bit camera shy.
Count 1 of the draw stroke.
Count 2
Count 3
Count 4 where support hand meets the shooting hand.
Count 5
Jenny demonstrating tactical reloads

Setting up a type 2 malfunction. Stove-pipe / brass high. Clearance time: 1.6 sec
Type 3 malfunction. Double-feed / brass low. Clearance time: 6.5 sec
BTW, neither one of our guns experienced any malfunctions during those 4 days.
My hand after 2nd day of 20lpi checkering.
On day 2, we get to shoot an Uzi for $20 or M16 for $30. :happy3:
Vince shooting Uzi
Me shooting Uzi. It shoots rather slow and mild. :)
Day 3 learning how to negotiate corners, hallways, and doorways at Monster's INC.

Type 2 malfunction. Looks like I'm doing it all wrong.
1 on 1 battle. I beat every body but one old dude. He's quick! I'm quicker but I missed! I guess there is this saying "you can't shoot fast enough to miss" holds true to this day. I'm happy being #2 though.
The final battle of the 1911s.
The congratulatory fist bump for the winner.
We had our test shooting distance from 3 meters all the way up to 15 meters time pressured
There is also a timed head shot from 5 and 7 meters.
Then there are those timed malfunction drills on type 1/2/3 and Tactical reload, and emergency reload.
Both of us did really well where I only had 6 points down and my niece's BF shot his with 0 points down. We both made the shots and malfunctions under the allotted time. Both of us got what we were aiming for which is Distinguish Graduate. There were only 4 out of 38 who got this and 2 of them are Texans. :D
Here is mine.
Here is my partner's
At the very end of the class, they posted up some targets with 2 hostage takers behind the hostage. They asked us to write the name of our loved ones on the hostage. Then we proceed to make those head shots at 5 meters.
He of course has my niece's name on there. LOL
And I have my wife.
Misc photo ops with the instructors.

Do you have any pictures you could share with us?

I love the pictures! The Annoyed Man wrote:Do you have any pictures you could share with us?
Just don't know about a certificate with Ignatius Piazza's photo(s) pasted all over it.
Somebody needs to tell that boy that the narcissism ain't a good or helpful thing. The facility and instructors are top-notch...but nobody goes there because of Piazza's mustache. I'm just sayin'.

Great pics..I am glad you had a good time! It looks like the staff has changed quite a bit over the last six years.

Thanks! Yes, other than the operations manager and the shotgun class range master, all the other staffs are new but I think they did a better job on providing 1 on 1 feedback than before. They've also changed the curriculum where there are no more turning targets and no more night shoots.jbirds1210 wrote:Great pics..I am glad you had a good time! look like fun, thanks for posting the pics
Some parents say it is toy guns that make boys warlike. But give a boy a rubber duck and he will seize its neck like the butt of a pistol and shout "Bang!"......George Will
