Rock Island Armory M1911-A1 GI .45 ACP 5" Barrel 8-Rounds $289.99
I don't own a Rock Island brand 1911, but I have a Charles Daly both made by Armscor. Mine is reliable and shoots well. I know Paul Harrell did a review of the RI and maybe Hickok 45. Seems like a good buy for anyone wanting to enter the 1911 fan club without much outlay. I seem to recall their shipping is reasonable. I'm thinking of adding this one to my collection.
Edited to add: I posted a link to Paul Harrell's review. Worth watching in my opinion if you're interested in the RI 1911.

Paul Harrell's review from 2020 is the more comprehensive reviews I've come across. He touches on issues that most reviews don't; gives a comparison to Colt.

I bought one in 9mm at a gun show around 10 years ago for around $400. Been very pleased with it as a training gun.

I bought one a few years ago and paid, I think around $400.00 for it. I have probably 2-3 thousand rounds through it and it has shot every type and brand of ammo I've shot. I have not had the issue he stated with the grip safety that he discussed but compared to my other 1911's, it is a little less in height so a good grip is essential.

Still so much to learn from Paul Harrell. I had no idea about the firing pin block, so checked my two 1911's, one Sig Emporer and one Tisas GI. Only the Sig had the firing pin block.

I couldn't find a Harrell video on the Tisas 1911, which is often compared to and reviewed with the Rock Island, but Hickock 45 did one. He compares the Tiasa to military issue 1911's. He mentioned the lack of a hammer block in comparison to some Colt models without it. Basically saying the Tisas is patterned after those pistols, particularly the 70 series Colts, which occurs at the 6:28 mark on his video. He got hammer bite from the Tisas, but he has very large hands, though with the two military pistols it wasn't a problem.Grayling813 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 10:26 amStill so much to learn from Paul Harrell. Interestingly Tisas has issued a recall on several of their 1911 Models for the possibility of the hammer following the slide and I assume the possibility of a discharge. I don't know if the problem lies with the sear design or machining flaw, but I would think it's relevant to that. I'm still debating whether to buy the RI, but I'm limited of my spending and have a couple of use guns on auctions I'm considering instead.
