Don't mean to upset you, but I think you will have a hard time trading a $450 XD for a quality 1911. You may have to sweeten the deal a bit.

in all fairness it is an XDm which is $600-700 and one heck of a pistol and he said and/or a $800 guitar.
So I am guessing it depends on the price of the 1911 as to what the trader will get.
My problem is that I do not want to part with my 1911.

Agreed! The XDm is a great shooting pistol, but I have seen them new for around $500 in Ft Worth, so I just assumed a used one would be a little less. I don't know enough about guitars to be any help with that one.

Buds has XDMs as low as $550. Also, depends on what the OP considers a "nice" 1911. Well cared for guns usually don't lose much value (however...polymer guns should IMHO
). Well cared for instruments do lose value unfortunately (I'm a 20+ year drummer). I'm guessing a used Ibanez will only fetch perhaps 60-70% of its new value (ebays got some for around $400). For what's being offered in trade I'd say the best that can be hoped for would be a Springfield GI or perhaps Loaded 1911 if considered a "nice" gun by the OP. If you don't get any bites on here, I'd bet a good Pawn Shop would take both your XDM and the guitar on a middle of the road 1911.
