HB 2756 Open Carry bill reported favorably

Personally, I would like to see every one that can lawfully carry having the right to open carry or conceal. But its not my perfect world.
I just think that to many have this all-my-way-or-nothing mentality.

If I possess lawful authority to excersise control over entry INTO PRIVATE PREMISES UNDER MY CONTROL commonly open to the public - all I need to do to establish effective notice that entry while armed with a HANDGUN is prohibited is to augment that 30.06 sign with one of those Circular ,RED, ("handgun/prohibited" / internationally recognizable/ "gun-buster" ???) signs conspicuosly affixed above(?) the 30.06 sign. That is "icing on the cake" for the VILLAGE IDIOT that can't comprehend that prohibition of a CONCEALED handgun also "LOGICALLY" INCLUDES DISPLAYED HANDGUNS on my property.

I really don't think this constitutes earth-shattering material for comprehension by reasonable persons.

The RIGHT to bear that firearm openly - or at all -(if 46.035(a) is repealed, or if traveling) ENDS-ENDS-ENDS at MY FRONT DOOR.

If ALL of us "right to carry" advocates can take a DRAG ON THE OLD "PEACE-PIPE" for a few seconds and support a bill that will remove the CRIMINAL liability presently "enjoyed" by ALL concealed handgun licensees while in TEXAS - would that not be a step in the "RIGHTS' direction ???

I would really like to be able to IDENTIFY myself as being armed in lawful defense walking from my vehicle across a parking lot possibly infested with drug-addicts,purse-snatchers, car-jackers, and random robbers, sexual predators -ENROUTE TO THAT business ENTRANCE that is NOT POSTED with a 30.06 sign (where I choose to spend my $$$$). Nothing prevents me from respecting the property RIGHT, or preferences of another by CONCEALING that firearm prior to entry onto THEIR PREMISES.

I apologize - I suffer from the "common sense" virus . I just fail to see the "big picture" as to why citizens in Texas shouldn't be allowed to engage in their Constitutionally declared RIGHT to bear arms in lawful defense in the PUBLIC domain - as is the case in 43 OTHER STATES.

Is this some kind of "turf war" going on down here- or what ?

Biting my tounge........ good thing my PC has a delete key......... I would like to know who these 43 other states that are referenced are, I would also like to see the results of somebody testing the 43 theory and see how many times they were arrested...

My issue with HB 2756 is that it may have the best of intentions, but it is poorly written and I am concerned there is a strong probability we will see an increase in the number of 30:06 signs if HB2756 is passed uncahnaged. I don't know if there is time remaining to make it a better bill and pass it this session, but I would certainly support that effort. However, I am unable to support HB 2756 in it's current form.

All States except Texas, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma and South Carolina, (Washington, D.C. not a State) have some form of open-carry.

I think the problem is people posting things like you just did that are overly aggressive and hostile that turns people away from the open carry supporters. There is no need to take a nasty tone when talking with other people that support gun rights in general.

I even support open carry and yet your post was quite off-putting. Try toning it down a bit, laying off the caps, and spend some time considering and addressing the concerns that people have about open carry. It will get you further, I feel certain

For starters - do YOUR OWN EDITING . I will do MINE. I like CAPS - it helps get the point across.

Thanks for making my point, I surely hope that nobody believes this as fact and open carry is even remotly permissable in any state that does not specifically allow it. Before locating to Texas I lived in Mass and even had a handgun permit, very, very tough to get in a ultra liberal may issue state. I can tell you that if you open carry in that state you will have a major problem and WILL end up arrested and convicted. It is not being truthful when people claim that open carry is permissible in 43 states and use that against states such as Texas. Propaganda comes in all shapes and forms, people tend to use it to promote their causes; this 43 state opinion is exactly that, propaganda without any merit that could have a disasterous result for those who take that as gospel.

You can open carry legally (loaded) outside of city limits in California. Counties do have the option to prohibit it, but not all do.

Hirundo, not trying to insult you at all, thanks for pointing out that there are some instances where it is legal. Just find it funny that OC people try to include places like Cali in those "43" as allowing OC when Texas doesnt like that should make passing OC a priority rather than an eventual goal. I'd take Texas CC laws over Cali OC or CC any day, but yall feel free to move to Cali if you think they've got this gun rights thing figured out better than Texas.

Limiting the discussion to open carry, I think it is valid to list California as one of the states with better laws than Texas.

Granted, open carry is the one of the rare areas that California gun law is better than Texas, one of the others being where you can carry (eg they can carry in schools) if you are one of the lucky few with a permit. I support open carry, but I'd rather live in Texas with our current laws than in California with their

To wit....I answered your question. You seem only interested in pointing out that in some areas...OC will get you unwanted attention. That does not mean it is NOT lawful or doesn't exist!

At one time...the chief of police in Harris County, Texas.... encouraged his officers to arrest or harass folks with CHL's when they were stopped. Would you deny that CHL's have been legal in Texas since roughly 1996 because of this?

There is plenty to discuss concerning OC, but when you ask for specific information, at least be willing to accept it when it is offered. As I said before, 43 States offer OC (in some form), whether or not it is widely accepted or practiced.
