State police had him cornered in a house, and then
Now, investigators say Reynolds wasn't actually barricaded inside that house the entire time. State Police have confirmed Reynolds not only left the home, but got past their perimeter and stopped at a Walmart. He made what police will only identify as "a general purchase" and then went back to the house - again, having to get past the police line to do so.

Seems he wasn't interested in getting away. He could have been in another state before police even knew he wasn't in the house.

So, why did he return to the house where the police mistakenly thought he was holed up?

Sounds like suicide by cop
State Police shot and killed Michael Reynolds last Tuesday after a nearly full-day standoff. Troopers say he walked out of the house he had barricaded himself in wearing dark clothing, body armor and carrying a weapon. Police say he made a threatening gesture or gestures toward them, and they shot him.

The articles are kind of confusing, but it appears the suspect killed a woman and wounded a man at one house, fled to another two miles away where he was surrounded by police. About 30 minutes past midnight a neighbor observed him sneaking out of a basement window -- but didn't tell police until the next day. About three hours later the suspect bought a phone at Walmart, and at some point came back to the area, but entered a third house about two blocks away. Police reacquired his location, and when he came out in body armor carrying a weapon and made "threatening" moves, they shot and killed him.
