A thrift store employees are going through donated clothing when a gun is discovered in a sock and it goes off.
.22
Apparently one shot.
Not the employee who discovered the gun is killed.
Gun fell into his hand.
I always wonder if there is more to the story. For example the other employee discovers the gun points it at the head of the victim and pulls the trigger.
Since we don't know what kind of gun, etc. it is difficult to figure out.
BTW Chicago, so story is impossible as Chicago is gun free.

That story is highly suspect to me.

How could this happen? I thought handguns were banned in Chicago? This is tragic, not trying to be too sarcastic, but come on. "The weapon accidentally discharged"? Of course it did. Guns like to go off without any warning. That gun was tossed around in some donation bin and just decided to go off on it's own when he took it out of the sock? If he pulled the trigger, then say so. Don't make it sound like an evil gun discharged itself and attacked the poor victim.

When I heard the story this morning, and 'it fell in their hands and it went off' - and just perfectly enough to kill their coworker?
Seemed more like "i want to hold this" and of course, they pulled the trigger.....

I suspect it was his gun and he said he sound it inside a donated sock because he didn't own it legally.

The problem as we all know is that this is more fodder for the anti's. "Dropped gun kills" so guns are dangerous and should be outlawed.
Geez. Talk about spin...

It's Chicago, they already are outlawed. That's why it was "in a sock".

The part about how the trigger got pulled is conspicuously missing.

I wonder if was a Derringer-type gun?
There was a recent case in Houston where one discharged after being dropped in a restaurant.
Both my M&P .40 and Glock 26 with a round in the chamber have fallen from the truck seat to the driveway with no discharges and no visible dings for that matter.

I feel for the lady's family, but this sounds about as truthful as any of the other bunk that passes for news these days. Even the poorest designed gun in the worst maintained shape won't "go off" if dropped the short distance from one hand to the other...sliding through a sock...landing in a human hand.

A derringer with the hammer down on a live cartridge - yup, that'll fire if it lands hammer down on a hard surface. There have been lots of cases to prove that works.
Even a derringer dropped from one hand to another, even if it were to land on the hammer, doesn't put nearly enough force on the primer to fire it.
I'm not buying the story as told.
