I was shocked , saddened, and upon reading the article....just plain sickened.

I went to junior high and highshool with this woman, (small graduating class of 39 or so) . Many of us have reconected through Facebook the last couple years and it was through Facebook I was informed of this .

I think I will wait till next week and then start spreading the gospel of home defense with my friends on Facebook. I'm not saying they did anything wrong, and God knows they didn't deserve this, however this tragedy must not be in vane. It should help teach others the need for a defensive plan.

Tragic.

When you fire somebody for stealing from your company, and they start threatening you, you should probably have a plan to defend yourself that includes securing and identifying people at your front door before you step in front of it.

Awful. Senseless.

Somebody needs to reassure the daughter that she only left evil and did not abandon her Mom and Dad.

Absolutely, she did the right thing. I wish her mother had done the same thing. I don't think her Dad had that chance.

I think this story reinforces my decision to carry on body even at home while I'm awake and keep it close when asleep. I live a stones throw from this family.

Someone needs to reassure that poor girl that she did just what her mom and dad would want her to do. Poor thing. I hope the wretched creature that killed her mom and dad faces justice soon.

I carry at home all the time and it's within an arms length while sleeping. This is a very sad story. I'm glad they caught him so soon and hope he spends the rest of his life behind bars.

People in business and some professions run into conflict fairly regularly, sometimes it almost seems like a way of life. Many years ago, a prominent lawyer answered his door one Sunday afternoon to be shot dead by a man he had been doing business with, apparently not entirely satisfactorily.

I ran a real estate investment operation, and also a foreclosure trustee, which handles the statutory procedure to complete a foreclosure. I would get death threats every now and then, and that's my "good cause" to have a CCW permit here. One of the pleasant developments of the real estate crisis has been the fall off in death threats, actually. I didn't have a single one in 2010, 2011 and none so far this year.

Having given this some fairly intense thought over many years, I suspect that it isn't the ones who call up and make the threat that you need to worry about. It is the ones who just show up out of the blue. So, one has to be constantly prepared.

I don't think it is that people are any crazier than in past decades. It's just that there are so many more of them.

Not only that, but I'm sure she did exactly as her parents would have wanted her to do.

Oh my, I am sorry for your loss Seabear. And the daughter, the poor thing, just a bit older than mine...so sad...she'll realize soon that she did exactly what her parents wanted her to do.

Such a sad story, this couple lost their younger daughter last year after a LONG battle with cancer. Makes me realize how good I/we have it. So many people have been affected by this, it is a very close knit family. I will continue to pray for them.
