The above video is a 1 minute, 36 second long dashcam video from the Marion County, Florida Sheriff's Dept.

A possibly impaired 21 year old man was walking near a busy road. The first LEO on the scene was a female,
the 2nd was a male. They prone him out on his stomach and are in the process of getting him cuffed when he
wiggles upward, engages in some tussling, then walks away (out of dashcam view).

The female LEO makes a split second decision that her partner is out of the fight, she draws and quickly fires 1
round, hitting the suspect in the abdomen, which eventually kills him. Her male partner jumps up, doesn't realize
that her 1 round has hit the suspect, and tases him.

The officers were judged to have acted OK by their superiors but the young man's family has employed THREE
law firms to sue on behalf of their loved one.

Comments welcome.

Watching her several times I don't think she intended to fire a shot. I think she had her finger on the trigger and under stress squeezed a shot off. She looks shocked after the shot is fired and covers her mouth to show her shock and suprise as she backs away from the scene. In addition, I saw no weapon, her partner was reaching fro his taser before reaching for his gun. Very odd.
Carry safe and carry when and where you can. I'm just sayin'.

:iagree:

I say the male officer pulled his gun first (right side holster) when he got off the ground and then he re-holstered it and pulled the tazer from it's holster on his left side.

Neither of them looked like they knew what they were doing, shoveling flashlights/cuffs/etc all around and not paying attention. The guy would have not gotten away if the female would have let the male put his cuffs on him, but she stopped him cause she wanted to use her cuffs to make the collar.

Weird......yes..........unprofessional.........yes
It's a wonder the guy didn't get one of their guns and kill both of them.

The guy managed to get free and then came back and attacked the officers. The shooting was justified under the circumstances. There's no way the officer could have known if he was preparing to attack again.

And as far as those commenting on her shooting someone running away that was unarmed.................

He had just committed a felonious assault on a police officer. She was justified.

But....she accidentally fired (that is obvious to me) and she hit him in the STOMACH! Hard to make that shot to the STOMACH if someone is running away. Tells me he was coming back for another attack.

Bottom line to me was they lost control. She over reacted and accidentally fired the shot.........I don't think she intended to fire that shot. High stress, finger on Glock trigger = shot fired. I'm surprised she didn't shoot herself in the leg!

I agree that it looked like a ND. It also looked like he was cooperative until being treated with what appeared to be an unnecessary level of roughness that contributed to the situation deteriorating. Justified or not, I think both officers came off looking pretty bad throughout the encounter.

Doesn't look accidental to me.. She pulls, gets both hands on the gun, then fires.. Then she swipes her face cuz the dude just got done beating on her..

Good job pd.

The LEOs obviously made some tactical errors and had poor teamwork. I don't see anything conclusive in the video that would led to an indictment. It is not surprising that there are three lawfirms trying to get a piece of the pie.

Even if the family of the dead man wants $$$ from Marion County, Florida, what is the thought process
behind employing THREE law firms? How do the 3 law firms logistically go after the county?

If they want $$$, they need three firms? If they only wanted $, then one law firm would do. I dunno, IANAL.

But $$$÷3=$, so it's a wash.

If he had just ran from the scene deadly force would not have been justified, but he was able to get up and then he attacked the officers, and then disengaged then possibly attacks again, he was off camera at that time. It sucks to make such bad decisions in life that can lead to death.

Three law firms: one for mom, one for dad, and one for his brothers. From the obituary I read mom and dad appear to be divorced, so that explains two of the three, he may have a kid out there too. This is just a guess on my part.
