This was a sad but intriguing situation, and it really hits a nerve as I too travel and spend many months in hotels.
I have a close relative who is in management at the Elegante Hotel who gave me a copy of the report; I will share more if and when I find it.
The victim, Gregory Fleniken was found in bed with a bullet wound to his groin and his door was locked from the inside. The police could find hardly any evidence. Fleniken was well respected and had a solid reputation. For days everyone was befuddled as to how and why would someone with this guy's credentials be killed.
In the neighboring room, Lance Mueller was drinking with others. He was drunkenly showing off with a 9mm and pointing it at the others. The gun discharged and penetrated the wall hitting the sleeping Fleniken in the groin. The bullet continued upwards, broke a rib which then hit the heart and shocked it. If the bullet had been 2" higher it would have missed the body but may have hit Fleniken in the chin. Poor guy, nice family man, living by the rules & minding his own business.
Mueller patched the hole in the wall. (tooth paste and toilet paper if I recall correctly) The next morning Mueller and his roomate saw the activity in and around the victim's room. He realized that he probably had shot someone. He later contacted a lawyer who locked the gun in a safe. Mueller then went back to his home in Wisconsin.
I dont remember the details but the lawyer was dealing with the police while asserting the attorney/client privilege. I was worried that this guy would get off a lot easier than he did.

Wow. That's terrible. And it is brainless fools like Lance Mueller who will kill off our gun rights sure as God made little green apples, because they aren't crazed maniacs.....just regular people "who can't be trusted with a gun."

If the guy who had the ND in his hotel room had owned up to the fact he did have an ND I doubt he would have been in nearly as much trouble or have gotten a long sentence if any. Our actions have consequences.

And that is why I have ZERO problem with folks who do things like this being prosecuted to the full extent of the law FOR THEIR ACTIONS. The group, firearms owners in general, should NOT be penalized for the actions of INDIVIDUALS.The Annoyed Man wrote:Wow. That's terrible.
