Burglar Fatally Shot/Victims Confronted By Burglar's Family

An Elyria, Ohio resident fatally shot a burglar who confronted him at home in the early Friday darkness, then hours later he was confronted by the dead man’s upset relatives.
He's in their house in the middle of the night, lunges at the home owner, and his family says "They could have taken other precautions. They didn't have to blow his brains out".

That was an interesting read...
He has a record..assault... And likes to fight. But they didn't have to shoot him, this could have been resolved differently...
Wow.

I can't believe the idiot reporter published all the full names and address! That's just plain irresponsible journalism.

It is all part of the UK driven narrative that a person shouldn't be allowed to protect themselves. Nowhere does anyone blame the guy who committed the original break in. If you read the UK newspapers, they have exactly the same approach. He is just another poor, misunderstood (and violent) guy.
People seem to have forgotten that there was a revolution in 1776 and that the people in American don't want to live like their British ancestors. Unfortunately, the politicians and the press haven't gotten that memo.
Even if the law turns out to be on the side of the homeowners, neither the police nor the press have done anything to reassure others who might take similar action in the future. And that is, apparently, the real end game. The best that the police can do is to "de-escalate the situation" when the family of the BG confronts the homeowners on their own property? Isn't that similar to what started the initial situation? Pull-ese.

Interesting....it bothers me how some people's mindset is to pass the responsibility no matter what. "I know so and so has a history of being violent, likes to fight, invaded someone's home, has been in and out of prison since 17.... but he didn't deserve to be shot". How is it that a rational human being even complete a sentence like that.
do you think the fact that the lady said they knew he would come back and that they knew he unlocked the window hurt them? Does Ohio have the "castle law"?

I thought this too when I read the article. Better to keep your trap shut about it.
I never do understand people's stupidity about talking to the press after events like this.
Reporter: Can you tell me what happened?
Me: No. Now get off my porch.

Yes. And it extends to vehicles.

On the positive side...I took the poll, and 98% of those responding said that they either had a gun for protection or would get one (84% said they had one, 14% said they'd get one). And there is little sympathy for the thug in the comments. That probably took some of the fun out of the "reporter's" day.....as it is obvious from the fact that she gave the address of the people who defended themselves, and not the address of the thugs family that came to harass them, that she is trying to cause them trouble.

The Carson family can be summed up in one word: ignorant trash.

Wow.
It's true. If the victim was killed by the attacker, that would be a different ending. It probably wouldn't have rated nearly as much press either.

You enter my house without legal right to be there and confront me ... And I'm the bad guy for shooting you in defense of myself/ property.... I guess I'm just gonna be a bad guy until I get no billed or found not guilty by 12 peers... Rather than carried by 6.
