Scarry! She was well trained by her parents. Hopefully they won't face any backlash by some anti-gun prosecuter for making a loaded firearm available to a minor without proper supervision.

If it was Austin or another liberal city the parents would already be in handcuffs for making a firearm accessible to a child and charges for deadly conduct/ discharge of a firearm within city limits filed against the 12 year old... Either way I'm glad she is safe and was able to defend herself.

:iagree:
My thoughts exactly
My mind is remembering a song
Teach your children well ...

I agree liberals who fear guns and own one but are unsure of how it works should keep them inaccessible to all members of the household who are ignorant of how they work, (including the adults) but I believe all households should teach the children and make firearms accessible to the kids who know what they are for and how they work and follow the safety rules and show maturity. I don't mean 2-year-olds, childproofing has its place, but after a certain age... who locks up the meat cleaver and butcher knife and scissors and ink pens and pencils and tapes foam on the corner of every table in the house ...

Instead, you teach them to not have the handle on the hot pan stick out over the stove and how to put the pot on the stove and not let your sleeve catch on fire and what do if there's a grease fire etc.

Many of our grandparents or great grandparents never heard of a trigger lock on a gun ... I guess you keep the key in a glass case on the wall and a sign over it ... In case of Indian attack/wild bear in the house...etc... break glass to get trigger lock key...

Oh wait, a child and broken glass ... hmmmm

Local news last night said it was a .40 cal Glock.

Apparently the girl called her mom, who was at work, and the mom told her to get the gun, hide in the closet, and to shoot if the intruder tried to open the closet door.

The news also mentioned the suspect had at least a prior arrest (not sure of disposition) for trying to kidnap a 17 year old girl with mental disabilities.

The scariest part is he will probably be back on the street before she's old enough to drive.

Well trained? The article I read said she had never fired a gun before.
A couple of things that come to mind:
1) Had this gun been locked in a safe, unloaded or no round in the chamber, this story would not have the same ending.
2) If the pistol were a traditional "cocked and locked" model would she have pulled the trigger with the safety on?
3) By the age of 12 any son or daughter should be able to fire and operate any firearm in the house.
4) The girl now needs to work on double taps...

Quite a different outcome from this story:
http://www.myfoxdfw.com/story/19892557/ ... police-say" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
RICHLAND HILLS, Texas -
A 14-year-old girl and a phone app were able to help police with crucial information needed to catch three men suspected of breaking into the girl's home.

The teen was home alone in Richland Hills on Monday when she heard a knock at the front door. When she looked out the window, she didn't recognize the two men standing outside, so she did not answer the knock.

Richland Hills police say the suspects went around to the back door and kicked their way in.

The terrified girl hid in a closet while the suspects ransacked the home for electronic equipment. Police say they pocketed an iPhone, iPods and more.

But then, the suspects opened the closet where the teen was hiding and discovered her inside. Sgt. Nathan Stringer said the men cursed in surprise, then ran out the door.[\QUOTE]
