The GG here was a US Marine veteran holding a backyard party, around a fire, in Flint, Michigan at 100 AM.

Read the story first, then see if you agree that his defensive plan, although ultimately ending with a BG shot,
had some problems. The armed robbers held many people at gunpoint for a long time before the GG actually
retrieved his Ruger, THEN he had to load it. It took a while for the GG to engage the BG's.

My takeaways from this incident:
1. Always have your gun loaded.
2. Always have your gun ON YOUR BODY.
3. Don't live in Flint, Michigan.

I have one of those ready now.

I do agree with the previous rules already stated. However, regarding this guys tactics. I think he did the best he could, while exercising concern for hitting one of his friends or getting them caught in the middle of a gun fight between him and the bad guys. I'm sure that had it appeared that the BGs were going to do more than just rob them he would have acted sooner.

The BG's are in custody, one in the hospital jail, and all the friends are unharmed. So far, so good. It would be better if both BG's were dead, of course... no recidivism that way, and a lesson to others so inclined. That said, not so bad.

I am leery of being armed at that kind of a party, likely alcohol consumed, 1 AM, etc. He used up a bit of his life time supply of good luck, of course. My flying instructor always counseled to never put yourself in a position where you need more luck to get out of it than can reasonably be expected, and this is perilously close to violating that admonition.

OTOH, you and all your friends are alive and unharmed. Can't beat that!
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Two rounds to the chest and he's at the hospital... still bleeding. Does not make me feel like the 9mm did it's job if room temperature is the goal. It did stop the conflict though. Chalk another one up for the good guys.

Why does this kind of stuff always happen to Marines? I'm glad I was Army :coolgleamA: . Now, jokes aside. I didn't see anything wrong with the guy's tactics, he showed great restraint in not shooting the place up.

People survive 85% of pistol caliber gunshot wounds. I am not surprised he survived.

1. Killing the BG is NOT the goal. Stopping the BG is. That happened here.

2. You can't "keep Ohio beautiful" since it is already ugly. :biggrinjester:

3. Stay out of SE Michigan from Flint to the border. Northern and West Michigan are much better.

I agree he did the best he could. Good guys still came out on top.

I'll bet that blood-thirsty war machine is secretly disappointed he didn't get a kill. Maybe next time!

According to my fraternity big brother, who is the chief of medicine in a Baton Rouge emergency room, very few people survive gunshot wounds to their thoracic cavity when the caliber they were shot with starts with a "4". The survival rate for smaller calibers is, indeed, much greater.
