The homeowner was the current or former landlord of Luis Angel Rivera, 41, who was shot to death, said Capt. Angelo Nieves, a sheriff's spokesman.

The shooter, who lives in the 200 block of 10th Avenue, told investigators Rivera rang his doorbell about 11:10 a.m., was armed with a knife and demanded money.

The homeowner fired a warning shot as Rivera went into the house and shot him again when Rivera would not stop, deputies said.
