A compliance officer opened the door to a woman home, walked into her house, stood in her bedroom door way to shout at her to come and sign a violation notification. Holy cow! He is lucky is he not full of holes. All this over 12 inch grass?!

He is lucky that he didn't end up shot. She is lucky he was being an idiot and not malicious. Locks keep you safer than video cameras, use them. Having video proof that you were violated or worse probably doesn't feel very good after the fact.

He sure is. It's one thing for a police officer to do a welfare check. It's another for a code enforcement bureaucrat to think they can just mosey on in to a private house.

Of course, a locked door would have probably helped.

Of course....an unlocked door is less than wise. Cameras just record, locks actually might deter

Agreed. One should also keep their yard and surroundings up to the minimum neighborhhood standards at the least. That's just good manners.

I don't know what a compliance officer is allowed to do in Georgia. If the door was closed but unlocked, is that like a Texas game warden opening a closed gate to look for game law violations on private property?

Locked or not, it was forced entry. He had to turn the knob and push the door open and that requires some force. Less than if it were locked, but still some.

Yeah, but I think a Game Warden enforcing game laws are a little bit different than a non-LEO trying to get someone to sign a city code violation. I'm just saying.

Big difference between a game warden taking a look into the back pasture and a man walking into a woman's bedroom while she is still asleep.

that lawn is not bad at all, there are some houses around here that is worse

Game Wardens are able to do searches that police officers are not. Even a police officer can't enter w/o a search warrant, probable cause of a crime or being invited. In Texas even if the door is cracked open it's breaking and entering. That's what the judge told us in trial where I was a juror.
