accidentally
"This is a horrible set of accidental circumstances,"
I read the report, couldn't find any accident, nor accidental actions mentioned. Someone intentionally loaded it, as all guns should be loaded like all cars should contain gasoline (except diesel or them green ones), Intentionally pointing a gun and intentionally pulling a trigger ...

:iagree: The penalty for thoughtless, inconsiderate action is often quite harsh. My sympathies go out to his mother and surviving siblings who have to live on with the consequences of his action. May God grant them some future peace.

Just replace accident*** with stupid*** and you will have a more correct version.

It is sad though. I am sure the family is going through a lot now and needs prayers as Dave said.

Well, I won't be praying (I'm atheist), but i agree the family must be having a tough time now. Would the older brother (gun owner) be held responsible for allowing a minor access to an unsecured firearm?

As Keith said, it was not really an accident, it was an act of stupidity. No one with any common sense would hold a gun to their head (loaded or not) and pull the trigger.

Depending on the state law, he probably could be charged with a crime.

I can't find a Pennsylvania law that requires firearms to be stored where children can't access them. Maybe they thought it was common sense and they didn't need one.

...when I was in elementary school (5th grade to be specific) guys would ride the school bus to school with their shotgun or rifle...put them in the coat locker at the back of the room, ride another school bus home with a friend, hunt all weekend and reverse the trip on Monday...we didn't play with 'em and we didn't hurt anybody...that was the late 50s and early 60s...

I'm finding it hard to imagine that someone buys a gun, takes it out of the box (or, was it still in the box?)... for a month and still doesn't know it's loaded.

As others have said - stupidity hurts.

Some people say you can't fix stupid. I think this proves otherwise.

Communist and socialist countries like Russia teaches para-military skills to the teens in the school. That includes gun manipulation and marksmanship. How about introducing that in the great USA?
