SAN FRANCISCO — After more than 35 years in prison, one of three men who kidnapped a busload of California schoolchildren in a ransom attempt that captured the nation's attention will soon be released.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced Friday that it would release Richard Schoenfeld later this month at an undetermined location.
This was a major news story. In 1993, they made a TV movie "They've Taken Our Children". Karl Malden played the part of the kidnapper.

I remember that story when it was still happening and the bus hadn't been found yet. I'd forgotten about it since until this reminded me. I'm not sure that 35 years is enough. Anyone dangerous enough to do that once is dangerous enough to do it again. We're not talking about a more or less spontaneous kidnapping and assault of one child. We're talking about a planned AND CARRIED OUT kidnapping of THIRTY FIVE children. Imagine if they hadn't found them......
He deserves to die in prison because he was prepared to let 35 children whom he buried alive die in an underground tomb. To heck with him. Let him die in prison.

Just recently the bus driver in this incident died.
The children remembered him fondly. He kept his cool under pressure and helped them
to get through the ordeal.

Perhaps the "undetermined location" will be 1000 feet above the Pacific Ocean, beyond the 2-mile limit...

And his "permanent residence" 1000 feet below the Pacific Ocean beyond the 2-mile limit ... ?

Well if they "release" him above the Pacific Ocean, I'd think his permanent residence would be "on the tide"
