Maybe it's just me, but isn't a trauma surgeon and military weapons expert in the Army's Special Forces a bit of an odd pair of jobs to have in the military? This guy sounds like he's going to be big trouble when someone finds him.
That's not a good way to celebrate the U.S.Army's 237th Birthday.

Somebody must have taken the "No Guns" sign down. See what happens when you don't have a sign.

I predict that when found, he will meekly surrender. IMO, he is too narcissistic to risk getting shot by the police. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Their wording muddied the waters a bit. He wasn't a Special Forces surgeon. He was a former Special Forces Soldier who became a surgeon. Lots of folks make a career change at some point in their lives.

I didn't think he held both jobs at the same time, but that's a big career change.
All a moot point now, though. They have apparently found a body that is probably his.

I heard he started off as a SF weapons specialist them became a SF medic. From there it's not that big of a leap to use GI benefits to go to school for a civilian career in trauma medicine.

A little late for that alibi.

I am sure he wasn't an unarmed man.
