Bad Guy Has Bad Day

Post by Excaliber »

A local bandit who tried to rob a drug store of its narcotics inventory in the middle of the afternoon yesterday on FM 1960 about a half mile west of I45 in Houston found out the hard way why it’s not a good idea to do that in Texas, particularly when it wasn’t his lucky day.

The robber’s timing was as bad as his selection of venue - he made his move when the store chain’s security manager, who happens to be a retired DPS trooper, was making an inspection visit to the store.

The bad guy’s tactical judgment left something to be desired as well – he opted to point his gun at the former trooper, whose extensive training and experience predictably kicked in and he responded properly, quickly and skillfully.

Said bandit won’t be doing that again.

The news report can be found here.

This is the second pharmacy bandit whose violent career was ended by a retired police officer in less than a week. (The first one was in New York).

I love happy endings.

I pass within a mile or so of that pharmacy driving back and forth to work.

Detectives are investigating the case as an officer-involved shooting because the former DPS trooper, although retired, still holds a state-sanctioned law enforcement commission.
What does that mean to him as the shooter, compared to if he had been carrying as a CHL and was not a commissioned peace officer?

I need a kidney is the terminated person an organ donor? He most likely does not qualify as donor, it does not hurt to test him and be a donor.

TAM, if he is retired it was most likely a CHL he was carrying under, I don't know for sure but most of the time when you retire from a department they no longer hold your commission and you cannot carry a weapon under that authority

Retired DPS officers I believe hold a Special Texas Ranger commision which basically allows them to carry a firearm as a LEO. At least that was the case when my uncle retired some years ago. I believe that is still the case today.
