The above link is to a news video out of Vidor, TX (near Beaumont). I don't know how they determined
it (store video? examining the vehicle's computer?) but a 62 year old ex-stepfather intentionally rammed his
former step son doing 66 MPH.

The stepson's vehicle was pushed back 80 feet. The former stepdad approached the stepson on foot while
the stepson was still in his smashed vehicle. The stepson, fearing for his life, shot the approaching man with
a rifle (brand/model/caliber unstated).

It's not clear from the video which vehicle each was driving, but the one they focused on was a 4 door F-series
Ford pickup with a large Ranchand front bumper and grille guard.

The Vidor Police Chief is interviewed. He's quite a big boy.

Maybe folks just need to turn off their TV's and video games?
Growing up without them I remember at times I got REAL angry, common sense would kick in and I'd realize going crazy wouldn't do any good. Seems to me that TV and computer junk encourage drama.
My two cents,
Nick

Ex-husbands shooting ex-wives, ex-in-laws trying to injure or kill their child's ex, etc is pretty common. One of the most volatile calls we ever took as LEO's was a domestic violence. The emotions run deep in these types of disputes and they can lead to some really nasty situations.

I have believe that as often as not, by the end, you all in blue were the problem. "Just because I wanna kill my brother with this here hammer don't mean I want you to haul him off to jail!"

I live in Vidor and have lived in many other cities and towns around the State Vidor is no better nor no worse than any other place in Texas I've lived. Yes Vidor got a bad reputatuon years ago regarding the KKK and thier racial prejudices. That was the old Vidor.

Now to the shooting - - - the man who did the shooting has been charged with murder and is out on bail, the Orange County DA seems to think the killing was not self defense but retbution for the alleged years of torment the decesaed put the shooter through. We will see what the Grand Jury has to say. And if there is a trial what the jury has to say.

Yep. Had one wife physically jump on the other officer because he was handcuffing the husband to take him to jail 'Like she asked him to do'. Then when I went to pull her off the other officer, she assaulted me. They both went to jail that night. We made sure they had separate rooms as far apart from each other as possoble until they sobered up. :totap:

:iagree:

But remember that "Old Vidor" is under the surface. All "New Town" are based on the old town. We read the paper looking for other places. So, we feel better about our town. But I remember my grandfather and the stories.

:iagree: , you are definitely onto the cause and effect of much of today's violence and mayhem.

From this article http://southeasttexastoday.com/blog/201 ... th-murder/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Sources tell Southeast Texas Today that a deadly family feud involving a man and his step son lead to one shot and killed and the other stabbed in critical condition.

Reports claim that the two men purposely wrecked into each other after one man tried to run the other off of the road on South Main in Vidor. Both men jumped out of the vehicle and started arguing with each other. Sources tell us it was a father by the name of Roger Allen and hist step son Kelley Mitchell involved in the argument.

The argument got very heated leading to the step father pulling out a knife and stabbing the step son and then the step son pulling out a rifle and shooting and killing the step father, Roger Allen at the scene. Reports say Kelley Mitchell, the step son was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition due to a severe injury from being stabbed.
Sounds like there may have been a lot more to this and since the lines are pretty gray, best to let a GJ figure out if Mitchell was truly acting in self defense or if he was the instigator.

I've got an issue that has almost nothing to do with the story except something I saw on that TV station's webpage. When did Vidor and that area get to be "South Texas"? I grew up as a little kid in the North Houston area...all that part of the state was East Texas...later, as a teen I lived 70 miles from Laredo...everything "below" San Antonio on a map was South Texas...so like I said, when did the area where Vidor is at become "South Texas"? Sorry for the OT thread, some stuff just gets to me...pet peeves and all that.

I remember arresting a gentleman one night and his dad came to the station with "issues." He was arrest too. Then mom. I thought I was going to have to arrest the sister too, but she was smart enough to leave when I told her she was going to be next.

All plead guilty and I never saw them again.

Speaking of the KKK...

I knew a Yankee gal who lived in Orange, Texas for several years, ending about 1987.

She told me that a white man in town was beating his wife on a regular basis.

The KKK went to his house, beat HIM up, and told him that he'd get another whuppin' if
he kept hitting the wife.

That was a rather unique story.
