Officer Davis stopped Bart Johnson for speeding. Mr Johnson is a pharmicst who has a CCW permit. Mr Johnson's brother is a Trussville police officer.
More details in this one. Sounds like the killer is another jerk full of a sense of entitlement. 18 traffic violations, vanity license plate. The excuse: he was tired and he had a headache and is a great family man. The execution can't come fast enough.

“Why,” Salvagio asked, “would a man who had come so far in the world” and was on his way to see his wife and two kids suddenly decide to shoot a police officer?

“We now know why,” Salvagio answered. It was, he said, a “perfect storm” of sleep deprivation and effects of migraine medication. Johnson, he said, had suffered from at least two migraines a week since he was 17.
Salvagio said experts would later explain Johnson’s mental illness diagnosis. He said Johnson stayed in a “noisy hotel” while in Gulf Shores and never should have started driving home that night, but did so because he was excited to see his family.
At 11:57 p.m., Owens said, Johnson put a Glock .40-caliber pistol to Davis’ face and pulled the trigger. Johnson then fled, ditched his car and attempted to steal another car before being picked up by his brother – a Trussville police officer – and eventually being caught at a roadblock in Hoover, Owens told jurors.

I just read through the few comments, and had pictured a scenario in my mind until I saw the words about putting the gun to the LEO's head...yeah, if anyone bought the guy's story after THAT, they are dumber than a box of rocks.

What do ya think? Just mad because he got pulled over? This doesn’t make sense. Family man, good job.

I’m not defending him, just trying to make sense out of it. :headscratch

Never mind, I didn't see the part about 18 traffic violations. :leaving

If we use today's new posts as a sampling:

CHL's are less dangerous to the Police as the own officer is to himself and his other officers.

One officer took his own life, but wounded one other officer vs one CHL killing one officer.

Yup. Looks like he's on Death Row. Hopefully, not for long.

he had stopped at McDonald's, bought a Coke and poured rum in it, according to Golden.
http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2011/05/doc ... t_way.html

Alcohol is the devil's drink. I once had a police officer told me that 99% of all rape cases somehow involve alcohol. If there were no alcohol, she'd be out of a job. Just like how some cops get careless with a gun's muzzle at a gun shop, some pharmacists get careless with drugs and alcohol. This is the sad result. I think that if he gets treated for drug addiction, he would not be a threat to society any longer, so the death penalty would be too harsh. Killing the pharmacist won't bring the cop back to life. The death penalty is a waste of two lives, that of the victim and that of the killer. I think that the killer should work to pay restitution to the cop's family and return from work to jail (not home) and wear an electronic anklet. No parole. Ever. You take a life, you should pay for that with your life, but not with the death penalty.

I used to support the death penalty until I learned that 2% of death row inmates were found to be innocent when they invented DNA testing. That 2% is just probably the tip of the iceberg of innocents put to death.

And as a tax payer who has to pay part of the $24,656 per inmate, per year it costs (national average) to house these pieces of pond scum, I will politely disagree. If DNA proves it, or they are guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt, remove the burden on society and inject the cocktail.

And remove the 10-15 year waiting period for mandatory appeals process.
