thats awful , from what i gather from the article if he was being beaten in the street then he did what he had to do .
i like how they used the the attackers aunt as a character witness . i doubt his sweet aunt knows if he was a jerk or had enemies

Martin said Chester told Daley to leave and that, as he was walking away, Chester left the yard and ran over to Daley, where he spun him around and began beating on him.
The witness said Chester was on top of Daley and was beating on him. Martin said that was when he heard gunshots.
Another bystander, William L. Weckler, said he saw Daley walk over to Chester's residence and ask the man if he could keep the dog quiet.
Weckler said Chester then ran out to the yard, confronted Daley and was beating on him.
Looks to me that it was a legitimate self defense shooting.

So AFTER Dan leaves and is walking home, Chester chases him down and starts beating him. Yeah, Chester sounds like a real sweet guy to me. I would be amazed if he doesn't have some sort of a criminal record.

I wouldn't be surprised if alcohol wasn't involved. I have seen normally docile people become very easily irritated and even downright mean when they get a few drinks in them. Used to be called '10 foot tall and bullet proof'. My Brother-in-law is that way. And, since he is 6' 4' and in his prime weighed 280 and wasn't fat, he decided it was best to not drink at all vs. getting into altercations where he might hurt someone, or even try to pick on a bigger guy and get hurt himself.
