And either too stupid to leave once confronted, or too high to care?

This kind of stuff is going on all over. I didn't search this forum to find the recent topic but a bunch more scumbags where using a loophole in the law to take over houses in Ft. Worth in the past couple of months. The City was "unknowingly" allowing them to execute a legal document for a house that they had no title to that was essentially giving them title. The DA is supposed to prosecuting them but the local media hasn't run a single story about it that I've seen. You would think that something like this is a newsworthy item but then again.........
I really feel bad for the soldier's family. I hope that they can recover some of what they've lost. It is just a terrible shame.

On first thought, you might think they'd vote a certain way...but then again, they are probably too stupid to vote. Just worthless people...

You are right... those squatters are lower than dirt.
The best thing about the story (aside from the squatters' arrest) was how the firemen came and picked up the homeowners' things (what hadn't been sold or given away) and put them back in the house.

...some people will do whatever they want...and attack anyone who challenges them...they recognize no rules...thank God we're in Texas where that's still illegal...and we can stop them....

Probably part of the OWS movement.

WFAA Ch. 8 has run a number of stories about it:

While deputies were checking the home for any other occupants they found a sizable amount of meth in the house along with needles.
Tweakers... They don't care about anything, but glass..................
60 days community service picking up trash and cleaning ditches will set them straight.
Pleases have the judge and transporting deputy contact me 24 hours out so i can arrange transportation from KIA to alasay valley.

I have been a
very good customer of Gallery Furniture for about 20 years partly because they help people that need help. I sent them a message along with a link to the story.

Apples to oranges - it wasn't the city, but rather the County Clerk accepting "Affidavits of Adverse Possession", a little known valid Texas law that was being bastardized to fit squatters moving into homes where the owner was temporarily absent (hospitalization usually, but other reasons were listed in the many stories about it in the local media). Charges have been filed by the Constables of the various precincts, court dates coming up soon. If you haven't seen the stories, do a little searching (BrianSW99 gave you one link - look also at the Startlegram and KTVT archives).
As for the OP's topic - these junkies aren't exactly upstanding citizens who keep informed of current events - they're looking for someplace safe to crash and something to sell to feed their disgusting habit. Oughta ship 'em downrange and let 'em look there!

Wouldn't it be nice if there were a way to make that happen?
An excellent "wishful thought".
