As would be expected, many of the repliers are wringing their hands and wondering what can be done, often looking to others for help.

I've responded there a few times suggesting what they can do.

May this woman's death inspire more to become gun owners and CHL's, and inspire those who already are to carry at home.
CHL since 2/2011
Glock 26, S&W 442, Ruger SP101 .357 3",
S&W M&P 40, Remington 870 Express 12 ga 18"

...I may be caught without my phone handy...but not my pistol...in the garage, the yard, the laundry...or the shower...no grown man's a match for 2 or 3 invaders...unless his name's Cordell Walker, of course...the rest of us need some help CLOSE at hand...

How awful and despicable, I continue to be amazed at the depravity of man.

We are in ranch country on acreage with the closest house about 400-500 feet away, the sheriff probably 15-25 minutes away at the best. I have a pistol at each end of our little ranch house and I've started carrying while on the property during the day. A BG would be completely nuts to confront ranch owners (my neighbors have nice selections of firearms), but then again I think most of the BGs are a little to a lot off their rocker to begin with.

...true and their minds are already set to do violence to accomplish what they want...the intended victim has to make the change of mindset to recognize/engage the threat...unless they're expecting trouble...as we should be...or we'll be late showing up for the battle...

Oh I don't know about that.
