The above link is out of Blanchard, Oklahoma and includes a video of an 18 year old mother with a 3 month old son.

Her husband recently died and she was home alone. She used the correct tactic of hiding inside and let the BG's
come to her. Then she fired.

She was on the phone with 911 for TWENTY-ONE MINUTES until the criminals finally gained entry to her mobile home.

She did what she had to do! 1 BG dead, 1 arrested.

Good for her.

Young mother..... lost her husband to cancer on Christmas day.... lost two dogs recently ...
She certainly didn't lose her nerve.

Bravo. :tiphat:

EDIT: I wonder where she lives relative to the Blanchard PD. It's a rural part of OK, near OKC.
20+ minutes for a 911 home invasion response could be a lifetime.
I'd bet the sound of a police siren would have scared him off and saved that guy's life.
Good thing she had a gun and knew how to use it.....

replays the 911 call "I'm holding two guns"... "Is it ok if I shoot?" with video of her holding the shouldered shotgun and a revolver

911 operator "I can't tell you you can do that, but do whatever you need to do to protect your baby."

I just saw that this morning on the news and her last words they played for the interview were

"there's nobody more dangerous than a mother with a baby" True that!

Sorry she had to go through this, however it sure beats the alternative. Like I always say, "they weren't coming for prayer meetin'."

I wonder if NC has a Freedom of Information/Open Law type of law. It would be interesting to request all of their training material and see if the E911 operators are instructed to tell the caller to disarm or if this was a personal political statement by the operator.

Honestly, I think there's a bit of context to be considered....
In the OK case, the 911 statement/quote was from before the assailant entered the residence. The local LE was nowhere nearby.
In the NC case, the 911 statement was from after the first BG was shot and the local LE was either approaching or on the scene.
Later in the NC case there was a discussion between the kind and 911 about "what if another guy comes around the corner". The operator did say that she would let him know when LE arrived and was entering the residence.

OTOH, local LE was not on scene when the NC operator told the kid not to fire.... Bad advice. But not as bad as it sounds out of context.

My guess is that the dispatch operators are instructed that they're not to tell anyone what is legal or what is not legal - that's what the commissioned officers do. Yeah, common sense would say that you should be able to reassure someone who's door is about to be broken in that they should be OK, legally, but then not being there to see what's going on, and not being a lawyer or a police officer (most dispatchers aren't), you can imagine the grief they'd get if someone did shoot and then was brought up on charges for some other reason that the dispatcher didn't know.
