Woman stops in convenience store at gas station. Man there notices her, follows her when she drives away. A few miles down the road, woman notices she is being followed, recognizes man from store, calls her grandmother.

Police find her car in the ditch, still running, still in reverse, purse inside. Go back to store, review video, see man. Man is located, questioned, admits rape and murder. Later police find her body a few miles away, raped and beaten to death with a baseball bat.

He drove her around for an hour before killing her.

Lots of lessons here. RIP Beverly Melton

Sad, sad, sad. The state would save a lot of dollars if she was my wife, sister or daughter.

She did a couple of things right. She was aware of her surroundings and called her daughter. It is unfortunate that help did not arrive soon enough. Of course, if she had a handgun the outcome might have been very different.
