This is in the UK news. Happened in Florida. Went to Iraq and Afghanistan never got scratched.

So does this work and is it taught?

Not sure why this makes the UK news other than to warn citizens of the dangers of guns or Craig's list. However, UK is reeling right now from a man being chased and stabbed to death in front of hundreds of daytime shoppers on Oxford Street during Boxing Day shopping, one of two stabbings on Oxford Street that day.

I don't know if its training our not but common sense certainly dictates that you do WHATEVER you need to to control bleeding and if that means going knuckle deep in yourself then so be it.
I've also heard of tampons being used on bullet wounds and have seen smaller, specifically designed ones used by ER's for nose bleeds...they call em, Rhino Rockets.

A little googling, came across a marine forum that says he is 48 with 29 years service. I guess the Daily Mail editors background knowledge is a little thin on the US military...

Back on track...I think the world of Marines, but going to an unknown apartment complex to sell a gold necklace thru Craig's list was maybe not the best planning. Glad he had the cool and the smarts to recover.

No kidding, most of my team carried a tampon or two in our cargo pocket for this reason. Quick, good size, and not bulky. On a convoy we were being escorted by Army 3rd ID on a supply mission and our gunner (Army 1st SGT) was shot in the shoulder just to the side of his armor. He ducked in, and My buddy replaced him-- the shot got lodged in his rotator cuff, so I simply sterLized the wound and put the tampon in. He laughed and commented on how rediculous it was..... But it stopped the bleeding and he stayed in the fight.

He sure didn't look like he was 29 in any of the pics I could find on him but he sure was one big ol fella!
