I'm not at all surprised that the gun was one of those double-barrel derringers.

Something similar happened in a Houston restaurant with the same type of gun.

Oh my word why do people keep carrying guns without trigger guards?!? At least put it in a good holster if you're gonna do that.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported that the girl's father had given her the gun and encouraged her to carry it for her protection. According to police records, she hasn't had any formal firearms training.

Luckily nobody was hurt. This was a tragedy waiting to happen.

Yeah, I know! Truthfully, I can see myself telling my hypothetical daughter to carry a gun — even illegally — if I thought the situation warranted it, but I'd never send her (or anyone) out unprepared like that.

I love Wyoming! She's lucky that no one fired back. OTOH, you don't see many cowboys in Starbucks...as a rule.

You don't just drop a gun in a purse! You still need a holster, whether built in, or not!

Now, that said, I still don't get this. I have a Bond Arms Texas Defender, in .45 and .410. The trigger pull is so long and so hard, I almost need both hands to pull it. So, how does a gun like this just "go off" in a purse?

...hammer partially pulled back and trigger pulled would do it...some of the cheaper derringers are really easy to "oops"...we wouldn't take the junk ones in pawn for the liability in selling them...your Bond Arms is high-end...

My vote goes with all the folks who have said "HOLSTER"! Besides, in most places with concealed carry, she wouldn't have had that firearm legally, anyway. Obvious lack of training and gun safety.

Wyoming is a Constitutional Carry state -- no license required. If she had been 21, she would have been perfectly legal.

Okay, Wyoming has Constitutional Carry...she was still poorly trained.
