Amtrak shoot out in Dallas

Post by A-R »

I thought guns were not allowed on Amtrak trains? How could this happen? Why did this person not follow the no guns policy? Why did the invisible force field not protect the gun-free zone?

Awesome. I was on that same southbound Chicago train about a year ago with my brother. This is a pic he took of me, standing almost right where that news video was taken. I have no clue what I was pointing at ;-)

Duh! You're pointing at the invisible gun-free zone force field, silly :biggrinjester:

Are guns REALLY not allowed on Amtrack trains? Even if traveling within CHL-friendly states?
I've never ridden Amtrack, since I prefer to arrive quickly, safely and for less cost via commercial jet.

...that's a LITTLE better...but it's still not an "...effective means of travelling with a firearm" as the NRA talking head said...an EFFECTIVE means would be in my holster...fully loaded...looks like Amtrak is still safe from my money...

Gun-control advocates say the new rules make train travel less secure.
"A baggage car is not like an airplane cargo hold," said Daniel Vice, senior attorney at the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. "Baggage cars are not as secured. Amtrak security has a lot of concerns about it."
For once I agree with the Brady bunch. The only secure place for my handgun is on a holster on my right hip. :tiphat:

Wow.......
I was at the Gainsville station last Tuesday evening to pick up neighbors who were coming back from a Thanksgiving trip to Arizona.

There are no 30.06 postings at the Gainsville station and I was carrying my SP101.

It was the first time my neighbors had ridden an Amtrak and the first time I have been to any of their stations. They did not have a lot of good to say about their ride and I do not have anything good to say about the look of the people I saw get on and off the train, other than to say I am glad I had my SP101 with me.

So if I'm reading this correctly, all the people hit were hit by fire from the LEO's service weapons? This also goes to show you exactly why eyewitnesses are terrible.

It turned out that the guy who was shot and killed was a wanted felon...not just some "Joe Citizen" or a "dirty gun-owner", etc. The sad that the LEO and a passenger got injured in the exchange with the bad guy.

On another note, my wife and I took an AMTRACK ride across half the US when we first got married many years ago. It was a neat experience and we saw a lot of countryside. I also rode AMTRACK once from Southern to Northern California, due to getting sick on an aircraft when I came back from Europe one time. It also worked out okay, but I did have to take a bus because the tracks didn't go exactly where I needed them to...the bus was the least favorite part of the trip, for certain. However, if you must get somewhere in a hurry, the train is NOT the way to travel.

As a kiddo I fondly remember riding the train (Amtrak) from Cleveland, OH, to Chicago, it was fun! At least then.
