Pages from the Past: Gun's blasts scared off chicken thieves in Catonsville in 1911
November 08, 2011

An article in the Nov. 11, 1911, edition of The Argus reported an alert resident didn't hesitate to take aim at intruders threatening his chickens.

Chicken thieves have been operating in the neighborhood of Catonsville this week. They visited the poultry houses of Mrs. Ellen Hill, at Shlyn, on the Frederick road, opposite Frederick Terrace, and those of Mr. Howard Mann, on Edmondson avenue, near North Bend land, Tuesday night.

It isn't the old west, your chickens are safer,.... or are they?

100 yrs ago they stole chickens, now they want your money and cell phone ... best defense is still your firearm.

Didn't Buck and Clyde Barrow start out as chicken rustlers?
The sooner I get behind, the more time I have to catch up.

There you go ... it's a "gateway" crime

100 yrs ago, fewer intruders brought their own guns and evil intent to harm the homeowner while chicken nabbin'... it' isn't the old west; it's more dangerous at home nowadays.

Actually, the "old west" was safer.

Exactly
100 years ago, a wild teenager (Billy the kid) shoots someone and becomes world famous BECAUSE IT WAS SO RARE back when everyone was armed

Nowadays there's so many gangstah wannabes shooting disarmed people who want to "feeeel safe" by not allowing self-protection, that there isn't time for them all on the local news, and they are soon forgotten since more occur daily.

An armed society is a polite society.
