Employees hid under desks and behind doors as Palmer walked outside, where he exchanged gunfire with police. He later died at a local hospital. Palmer had no criminal record and held a concealed weapon's license, authorities said.

This was in Arkansas. The gunman was looking for the judge who had overseen his divorce case.

I would refer you to the fact that this article was written by the Associated Press organization. They have a noted anti-firearms and anti-Second Amendment stance. They seem to constantly search for any NEGATIVE incident, large or small, that involves firearms, and proceed to turn it into a national-level story. It is simply one more method of propaganda...please remember how many law-abiding firearms owners there are in this nation, how many firearms and how few incidents there are in comparison to those extremely large numbers. Indeed, despite that the man MAY have been indeed been a CHL holder, the crimes commission rates by CHL holders are FAR lower than the public-at-large. I don't have the numbers at hand, but I'm sure that SOMEONE on here could supply you with them. Our "friends" who all-but-wish us to be potential victims of criminal actions never rest; neither should we. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

We had an incident similar to this one several years ago, at the Tarrant County (Fort Worth) courthouse, in almost the exact same circumstances. That was the last time anyone could just walk into a courthouse downtown (we have several of them). Luckily, the sub-courthouses sprinkled throughout the county, where we can go for plates and tax office business, don't have the magnetometers. Yet.

Well, looking at the data for the most recent year posted (2009), it seems that CHL holders in the State of Texas accounted for, drumroll please............0.1541%. That IS NOT 15 percent, that is POINT 15 OF ONE PERCENT...a microscopic fraction of total convictions. CHL holders are overwhelmingly law-abiding...though I admit that one or two really bad apples do indeed stink. Once again, I call PROPAGANDA on the Associated Press for this sort of journolistic spin...

For TX, in 2009:

65,561 felony or Class A or Class B convictions (Correct?)
101 felony convictions or Class A or B for CHLer.(Correct?)

Ratio: 0.1541%

However, in 2009, CHLers are only 402,914 out of aprox. 16,800,000 Adult above 21( see: http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/ ... 1s0016.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
Total TX population: 24,782,000
Now per population:
101/402,914 or 0.25 per 1,000 CHLer
65,651/24,782,000 or 2.65 per 1,000 non-CHLer (regardless of age)

That is almost 10X non-CHL to CHLer convictions ratio/population.

You are preaching to the choir friend. You know the facts, I know the facts, but it's John Q. Public that I worry about when stories like this one come out.

LOL, I'm having a better day today. When I looked at Dave's response yesterday. It had me thinking he was saying well it happened in Arkansas so it doesn't count.

God I hate when irrelevant facts are brought up. Him having a CHL has nothing to do with the crime. Unrelated, but I also hate the misuse of "assault rifle". While I can't be sure that it wasn't a genuine assault rifle, I'd honestly be willing to bet my house that it wasn't.
