In my opinion, the only former active duty members of any of our armed services that deserve the title "ex" are those discharged dishonorably or under less than honorable conditions. We all are still Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Air Men, or Coasties. It can't be undone.

I found it interesting that the newspaper identified the 16 year old by name.
We don't do that here.

Probably fell-down too fast from the window to get another round into 'em. Isn't he in critical-condition anyway?

Yes, but I would surmise he wouldn't have known at the time of the incident the seriousness of the offenders wounds based on the fact they ran away.

In all seriousness it is sad that someone who is only 16 feels this is the correct action needed to obtain possessions. Hopefully this will scare him straight... Unfortunately statistically it will not and this may be one of many interations with the justice system. And, possibly somewhere down the road the next person may NOT be so forgiving and not stop until he IS dead. If the latter is the path he chooses ... What a waste of potential... because as jaded as I am I still believe we all have something constructive to offer.
