Yet more reason you should carry 24/7. I wonder how many people in this IHOP had a CHL but were not carrying, thinking "I'm only going to IHOP for a bite. Nothing ever happens there. I'll leave my gun home."

Considering there was apparently a CareFlight helicopter there, I would imagine at least one person was seriously injured. My prayers are with all the victims.

I hate to admit it I'm the world's worst at keeping my guard down when in familar places. Bad things can happen anytime and usually when not expected.

sad.

carry everywhere, always and keep your wits about you, folks - we live in strange, dangerous times.

RIP to those who lost their lives and my sympathies to their families.

Not sure if this went to motive, but of the three dead, two were National Guard soldiers in uniform.

Yeah, but he was in a different business across the parking lot, not in the IHOP itself. Not sure what the distance was but I would assume it would be 20-30+ yards. I could engage a target with my pistol at 50 yards given time to completely sight in and breathe if the target is stationary in a controlled range environment, and might actually hit it 2 out of 3 times. In a firefight against a rifle at 20-30+ yards, I'm ducking behind cover. No way I'm doing a spray-and-pray in a public parking lot.

Looking a google maps, it appears that Mr. Swagler was at least 30 to 40 yards away from the shooter. His restaurant is the one to the north of the IHOP. There is a McDonalds to the south if IHOP, across the street.

It would not be an impossible shot, but I can't fault him for his actions. He secured his door and then warned some people who were going to walk into IHOP, maybe saving their lives.

If he shoots towards the IHOP he has to worry about other patrons of the IHOP and the Mc Donalds on the other side of the IHOP.

As they say, don't take a pistol to a gunfight with a rifle.

I suspect the shooter did not specifically target men in uniform. I suspect they were all hero's and rushed the shooter.

They are saying AK47 now instead of rifle.

RIP

The shooter's brother first denied being related to him then later is quoted as saying...
“You (the media) are going to make a lot of money from this,” he said. “Pay me a lot of money and I’ll talk to you.”
Are you kidding me?! Your brother just went on a shooting spree and killed people and you are wanting money!?!?!?!?!?!?

I know it sounds very crass, but considering the bottom dwelling scum sucking media, why not? :thumbs2:

The media are making this whole thing seem incredibly random...but unless there is a motive such as theft, for instance and violence accompanies that action, then this sort of thing usually has SOMETHING PERSONAL at the root of it. Of course they are going to say the weapon was an AK-47, even if that wasn't accurate...that generates MUCH more sensationalism than "semi-automatic rifle"...and of course, political capital for the inevitable calls for a renewal of the AWB...even if they know one won't succeed, they use the calls as fodder to shore up their base and get campaign donations (part of that never letting a crisis go to waste thing)...all that aside, this was obviously a very tragic incident. All my sympathies and condolences to the families...

Make that 2 AKs and 1 pistol. That BG checked out fast. :woohoo

Rumor is that his ex-girlfriend worked at the that IHOP plus personal bankruptcy and the result is clear.

I KNEW that someone on THIS forum would find a way to put up something INFORMATIVE about the situation. Makes you wonder if the ex-girlfriend had some hand in that bankruptcy...I've seen those situations a time or two (men who got cleaned out by girlfriends). Doesn't excuse the shooting in the least, of course. BTW, Thank you...
