Even though they are all acquaintance assaults and at least 2 were off campus the comments I heard on the radio chap my backside. Campus administrators advise students to "take responsibility for their own safety". When they make sure that the young women on campus are barred from carrying, how are young ladies many of which are maybe 5 ft and 95-115 lbs to take care of themselves.

My guess is a lot of this type assault occurs due to on campus parties involving substances which would preclude legal carry, others occur for no other reason than it's a safe hunting zone and the predators know it. I do applaud TCU for publicizing the problem unlike schools when I was going back in the 70's.

...the schools are motivated by money, just like all businesses...I think a good self-defense class would go like free pancake breakfasts in December if they'd offer one...IF SOBER, a woman well-trained can repel boarders even if she's not armed...

i was an unfortunate witness to the aftermath of a sexual assault at UH several years ago. i was visiting my then girlfriend at her dorm and we heard screaming next door. the poor girl who stayed in that room had just been assaulted at gunpoint in the parking lot and her car was stolen after.

i cant imagine what she's had to endure since that night.

rape is worse than murder, imho.

i agree with the self defense class ideas, a little jiu jitsu goes a long way... especially for women.

The criminals are only doing what Straus and Lucio want them to do.

Let me start by saying I am all for campus carry. One of the main issues I never really see discussed is age. The average student entering college straight out of high school would not even be able to carry until at least their junior year depending on age. I agree that some sort of self defense class would go a long way in helping these young people (even the guys if they choose to take it).
