One man shot, 3 arrested , looking for 4th

jumped out of bed, grabbed his handgun, and found two of the men holding his wife, with guns to her head.

Bracey opened fire, shooting one of the intruders — who was wearing a hat that read “police” —

Three of the men had handguns and one carried a rifle, reports said. Jackie Bracey told deputies all four men pointed their guns at her and told her they were police.

As they forced Jackie Bracey back into her home, she started screaming, convinced the men were not police officers, reports said.

Good for the sheepdog!

Just because the people breaking into your house say they are the police, it doesn't mean that they really are.

One reason I dislike "no knock" warrants in most instances.

I would guess he was shooting a 1911:
Ronald Bracey continued firing his gun until he had emptied eight rounds from his clip. A bullet hole pierced a front window of the home, and lodged in the exterior wall of the garage, reports said. According to the report, Ronald Bracey never saw the other two suspects.

dunno; news reporters are rarely accurate, 8 rounds from his clip ...

lots of single stack 9mms have 7 round mags 7+1 = 8
Taurus PT709
Keltec PF9 etc

couldda been a 1911, could be inaccurate reporting .... now I'm curious

The gunfire scared away one of the Bracey family dogs. Buddy, a 1-year-old hound mix, ran from the home during the commotion and hadn't returned by late Tuesday night, NBC-2 reported.
Thank God that is the worst that happened to that family (aside from the trauma ect..).

...I'm glad they chose to run, instead of shooting her...bad situation any way he went...glad it worked out so well...
...anytime, anywhere...we can't hear it enough...

I'm glad the homeowner stepped up and did what he did and didn't hesitate. I wouldn't be surprised if he had some
training in the past.

According to the article it doesn't actually say he emptied his clip. Says he emptied 8 rounds from his clip (or 8 shots).
continued firing his gun until he had emptied eight rounds from his clip

Rob Pincus still teaches it. His reason (among other things but I'll keep it simple) is that the average person involved in a gunfight won't be able to keep up with how many rounds they have fired.

There is video floating around on the internet that I believe backs up this theory where an off duty security guard was interviewing after a situation at a CVS. When asked he said he thought he fired four rounds, turns out he actually fired eight.

It's hard to argue with the results when a good guy fires until the threat is ended, whatever that takes.
