In 2001, one Mark Stroman, a career criminal and drug addict, shot three Asian men in Dallas, two fatally, in revenge for the September 11 terrorist attacks. The men that he shot worked at convenience stores. None were Arabs.

The surviving victim, who is a Bangladeshi Muslim immigrant, has appealed for clemency for the convicted killer.

If Stroman is executed, he would be dead by now. The final word has not made it into the "Googles."

There are good reasons that the state prosecutes and sentences criminal offenses instead of having the victim do so.

If all it took was a victim wanting to "forgive" to set aside a death sentence, can you imagine the pressure and threats that could be made against victims trying to get the convict's sentence reduced?

Sure. Witness tampering happens now, with the current state of the law.
