Other neighbors also expressed outrage at the shooting to police, asking, “Who does a thing like that?”

“It would seem like an ice cream truck would be a safe haven,” Sullivan said.

When we were stationed in Germany we had a problem with drugs getting on base. Our SPs weren't above asking some of the high school students to help out. Turns out that it was the German ice cream man who was bringing them in. He had false bottoms and other containers hidden in/under ice creams with strong scents in order to confuse the dogs.

The state of Texas should pass a law and make Ice Cream trucks a Gun Free Zone. That way this will NEVER happen again. When are we going to pass common sense laws and protect our ice cream !!!!

Does anybody know if it was Blue Bell?
Gun control is like stopping drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to drive.

For a small one time fee and postage, the Ice Cream trucks can create their own gun free zones!

Seriously though, this is a trend that will only grow in this economic situation that we are living in. We need to remember our training and be even more aware of our surroundings at all times and every location we go. Do not let your guard down for even a second.

If you are a CHL holder and not carrying you need to reconsider your priorities and take every action needed to be able to protect yourself and family.

Always carry and be safe.

The answer to the neighbor's question is:

The same people who shoot clerks at convenience stores, carjack cars at red lights, and do drive by shootings of folks who looked at them in a way they don't like.

Banning guns, convenience stores, cars, or red lights will not make them any nicer or less dangerous. Most of them will stay that way until they die and are replaced by others with similar traits.

Baldeagle is exactly correct - there are no safe places.

There are places where really bad things happen with high frequency.

There are places where really bad things happen with low frequency.

There are no places where really bad things don't happen at all.

As a former LEO, I can tell you from personal experience that the most frequently heard exclamation from neighbors at a crime scene is:

"I never thought something like this could happen here."

Believe it.

It can.

...yesterday, my wife who used to hate guns and recently got her CHL but no gun told me like it was new information: "Glenn Beck says when the gov't quits handing stuff out they're going to start rioting and looting and come to our neighborhoods and steal from us..." I said I knew that...she said "Well, we'd better be getting ready for it!!!" Duh...if only she knew...folks don't think it can happen to them, or where they live, or at the "better" mall where they shop...but they're starting to catch on...

Maybe if they stopped playing the same stupid songs over and over they would not get shot at. I remember as a kid my father saying he was going to shoot the ice cream trucks speaker because of this. "rlol"

...I've felt the same here...one that came around for a whole summer would stop the music and a woman's voice would call out loudly: "HELLO"...you could hear it in the house over the TV...
