WI: Defense argument least likely to succeed

In Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, this week, a man is on trial for murder.
The prosecution alleges that the man went to the apartment that his former "girlfriend" and her current "boyfriend" shared and fatally shot the boyfriend. The shooting occurred in the middle of the night while the couple was asleep in bed.
The defendant's story is that he went to the apartment with the intent of beating up the boyfriend and then dramatically shooting himself. He claimed that he shot the boyfriend by accident.
Earlier in the trial, a deputy testified that he had stopped the defendant from strangling his former "girlfriend" after the shooting.
