In Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Monday a 62-year-old man was charged with shooting a rifle inside an apartment. Specifically he is charged with "second degree reckless endangerment, endangering safety by reckless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, and misdemeanor bail jumping."
The suspect allegedly "went to the bedroom, took the Winchester deer rifle, and fired a round into the floor.
"Investigation showed the bullet went through the floor, through the sheet rock ceiling of the basement, into a sheet rock wall of a storage unit, and onto the concrete floor. It then ricocheted up and went through the basement ceiling again, on a path to return to" the bedroom from which it was fired.
No one was hurt. The bullet was not found.

Do these idiots hatch in bunches?
We just had a story about someone shooting a shotgun through an apartment floor and wounding a downstairs neighbor the other day.

Sounds like that guy needs to have a breathalizer installed on his rifle. If any alcohol is detected it will be rendered inoperable.

Not quite.
The problem with modern society is that it has been made safe enough for stupid people to survive to adulthood. Back in the day they would have been eaten by carnivores, fallen off a cliff, or befallen some such fate.

I've ad a theory for a while that we need to do away will all of the safety labels and equipment that we see on a daily basis. If you need a warning label to tell you not to drink bleach or a "caution hot" label on a CUP OF COFFEE then maybe the world would be ok without you. If you would like to see darwinism at its best (or worst) then tune into "1000 ways to die", it really puts in prospective how stupid some people are.

Removing these pointless safety warnings is fine. The people who most need them don't read them anyway.
My current favorite target of derision is labels on packages of nuts that say, "may contain nuts."
However, these labels are the product of a legal environment that makes the odds of winning lawsuits about equal to playing poker. I don't know the answer to that. Stupid people get onto juries also.

I went into Five Guys Burgers and Fries the other day. They serve free roasted in-the-shell peanuts. They have a couple of large open "self service" boxes with peanuts in the restaurant and about twenty 50 pound sacks of peanuts stacked on the floor. I noticed a sign next to one of the boxes warning people not to remove the peanuts from the store because some one might have an allergic reaction to them.
