NY: 8-year-old boy sells pistol at school

#1

Post by seamusTX »

In Queens, New York, an 8-year-old boy allegedly brought a pistol to school and sold it to another boy for $3.

The happy buyer brought the pistol home and showed it to his mother, who predictably freaked.

The father of the seller admitted that it was his Taurus 9 mm pistol. The powers that be announced that they would charge the father and the son with illegal possession, but not the boy who bought the pistol. The buyer thought it was a toy.

Maybe you need to go back to elementary school. ;-)

Seriously, this is a perfect example of failure that the anti's love. Responsible gun ownership is key to making sure we get our 2A rights restored. These types of events are just black eyes for firearms rights. :banghead:

I wonder if the bullets were in the gun during the sale? If I were an 8 year old boy and I just bought a toy gun, I would want to pull the trigger.

The article specifically says "loaded gun," and there's a photo of a pistol with a charged magazine and one loose cartridge. The caption says, "Police said an 8-year-old boy brought this gun to his Queens school..."

Maybe there wasn't a round in the chamber, in which case pulling the trigger any number of times would have done nothing harmful. It seems quite a few people want to keep double-action pistols with a magazine but no round in the chamber.

Silly me. I even read the article to see if it said before posting, I just didn't read the headline

The thought here seems to be that small children do not have the strength to rack the slide should they find daddy's gun. My boys couldn't cycle a semi auto until they were 7 or 8.
We're all here 'cause we're not all there.

Yeah, and the adults also are afraid of an accidental discharge, especially with the prevalence of celebrities shooting themselves. I have admitted it took me a while to get used to having a live round in the chamber pointing down my leg.

Hmmm.

Guns are pretty much illegal in New York. Guns are illegal on a school campus. The sale of the gun was illegal (I assume). Possession of a gun by a child is most probably illegal.

But it still happened.

I know pass another law, double secret illegal that will keep New Yorkers safe from guns. Maybe the death penalty for children with guns.

Is that Taurus pre-World War II?

Not a high quality antique, but it still probably goes bang.

If not, send it back to Taurus for a fix (lifetime warranty).

No. Taurus was founded in 1941. The company started making Beretta clones in the 1970s. There were no substantial imports to the U.S. until the 1980s.

Unfortunately, the father in this case will probably never see the pistol again except at his trial, if he has one; and he will be a convicted felon.

Apparently the father who owned the gun admitted to scratching the serial number off. Isn't that also illegal?

Effacing a serial number or possessing a firearm in that condition is big-time illegal. GCA68.

I worry that one of those "fashionable" pink ladie's guns will be mistaken for a toy.

good grief.

glad this isn't a far more morbid headline... which it could have easily been. father of seller needs to spend a year in jail and lose all rights to ever own firearms again. :mad5
