MCKINNEY - A McKinney man was shot in his upper left torso after getting into a struggle with a home intruder who was able to get a hold of the homeowner's gun, read a statement released by police Wednesday morning.

I wonder how long after the home owner grabbed his gun, did they get a hold of it?
Did he second guess his pulling the trigger too long? Did he try to talk them out the burglary?

I say this, being that I have never been in this situation, but you come in my house, after dark (and possibly during the day!) unannounced and by way of breaking in, I will shoot as soon as I see you are not someone I am expecting, period. You would not have a chance to get to me or my family.

@Teamless - I am with you! If we were to find an intruder--day or night--the intruder would promptly be stopped.

As I read the story there are a few things that cause me to have unanswered questions:

--Homeowner was on the back porch. Why not in the house? Was he shot in the house or the pack porch?
--Three BGs. Did they have multiple entry points? Did he only struggle one BG?
--After shooting the homeowner, they left the gun at the scene. Was the gun in the homeowner's hand when it was fired? If the BG took the gun away and then shot the homeowner, why leave it behind?
--Was anything stolen/taken?

Was this at Long John Silvers? Something smells fishy to me.

We'll see how this one plays out. Once they determine the entry angle of the bullet, he may have some splaining to do. You know how fishy those guys in the McKinney area can be.

Not saying that they think this far ahead, but maybe they didn't want to be caught in possession of the weapon that shot this guy. If "they" actually exist.

...IF it's a real deal...seems like he had not made up his mind about when/if he would/could shoot...and to those who've settled that long ago...it does seem strange...and smells of old tuna...he may have been TV-talkin' when he should have been squeezin' the trigger...perhaps those old lawdogs in McK will sniff out the truth...

Just a couple of blocks from a friend/co-worker, I hope it doesn't affect her decision to obtain her CHL.

It's easy to second guess or armchair quarterback. With all of the training and mental preparation real life can rear its ugly head and bite you. All we can do is our best and stay prepared.

...yep...you're right there...but most posts of events like this here are for two reasons: to make us more aware of how quickly trouble can arise...anytime and anywhere; and to prepare, train, re-train us to handle them well if they do happen to us or our families...and you'll see a lot of comments and criticisms as we get the facts...directed at the situation, not the person involved personally...

Any more details? This could turn out to be anything.

Maybe it was an ongoing dispute, he pulled the gun to up the ante, tempers rose and things escalated and they scuffled around, and the gun went off to everyone's surprise so they all fled. Who knows!

The story I got from someone close to this case is that the man heard something outside and went to investigate with his pistol.(NEVER!!! Lock the doors and stay inside where its safe.)
Thats where things become unclear....he was the one who called 911 and wasn't in great shape when all the first responders got there.
So they didn't know if he ever saw the 3 guys before they saw him or if maybe he rounded a corner and they were on top of him before he could get a shot off or if, like someone else mentioned, he simply hesitated in taking the shot. In most cases though 3 on 1 is pretty unfavorable.
Regardless, they began wrestling and were able to get his gun away from him, shoot him and then beat feet away from the scene.
Supposedly, and lets all hope so, the guy will be able to recover from his injuries.

First thought was gambling debt or drug deal gone bad. Could be legit though who knows.

Yeah, I may have jumped the gun (no pun intended) on this. From MedicMan218's post it sounds like a bad decision on the home owner's part to go investigate the noise.
