In the legal equivalent of parole hearings, psychiatrists treating John Hinckley Jr testified that Hinkcley is no longer a danger to himself or others.
Hinkley was found not guilty by reason of insanity after shooting Pres. Ronald Reagan, White House Press Secretary Jim Brady, and two others on March 30, 1981, nearly 30 years ago today.
He has been released recently to the custody of his elderly parents for up to ten days at a time.

I would have said, whatever
except for this:
In the court proceedings in 2009, defense and government witnesses did agree on this: Thirty years later, there is considerable evidence John Hinckley still has problems in his relationships with various women he has been dating, both inside and outside the hospital.
Dating? He has been "dating" mentallly ill women?

Perhaps remaining in the facility where he appears to have such a wonderful social life is best......

Some of these guys do better with the structure in prison or a mental institution.
David Berkowitz ("Son of Sam") has refused parole, even though he might be eligible.

Good.
Now he can stand trial and face the consequences of his actions.

A person cannot be tried a second time after being found not guilty, whether by reason of insanity or lack of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
The guy was crazier than a truckload of bat guano and spent much more time in custody than most people who are convicted of attempted murder or aggravated assault. I just hope he doesn't hurt another innocent person if they let him out.

John Hinkley was a native of University Park, Texas (next door to Dallas) and
was a 1973 graduate of Highland Park, Texas High School. His parents moved
and were living in Evergreen, CO.
During an interview of Mr. & Mrs. Brady today, the Brady's stated
that Mrs. Hinkley (what about Mr. Hinkley?), the shooter's mother, had
moved to Williamsburg, VA to be closer to her son.
Well, the Brady's were inclined to visit Williamsburg, VA from time to time
and the LEO's will let them know when Hinkley is staying in Williamsburg.
But the Brady's are less inclined to visit Williamsburg these days. Imagine that.
On March 30, 1981, Hinckley fired a .22 caliber Röhm RG-14 revolver six times
at Reagan as he left the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., after addressing an AFL-CIO conference.
Hinckley wounded press secretary James Brady, police officer Thomas Delahanty, and Secret Service agent
Timothy McCarthy. Hinckley did not directly hit Reagan, but seriously wounded him when a bullet ricocheted
off the side of the presidential limousine and hit him in the chest.

That's what they said about
Casanova Frankenstein, and look what happened there.

I'm not saying I agree with the decision of Hickley's shrinks. I just reported the fact.
Personally I think the guy should be confined until he is dead of old age or too crippled or demented to harm anyone.
There is a history in real life of dangerous psychotics being deemed "cured" and released, only to continue their destructive ways. I can't remember the guy's name, but 20 or so years ago there was a prisoner who became the darling of some New York writers and got an early release. He killed a waiter who reprimanded him for urinating outside the restaurant where the waiter worked.
As for women who "date" notorious criminals and people like Hinckley, well, it just goes to show men don't have a monopoly on stupidity or bad judgment.

The guy's name was Jack Abbott. Writer Norman Mailer helped obtain his parole from prison after serving time for forgery, bank robbery and murder. Six weeks after getting released from prison he stabbed a man to death.
