March 3, 2011, 9:25 pm
A UMass Dartmouth law student is behind bars, accused of storing an AK-47 assault rifle and loaded handgun in his
off campus apartment. Police from Texas to Massachusetts are on the case.
John Cassidy is being held without bail, awaiting a dangerousness hearing Monday - but we're learning more about him tonight from police, neighbors, and classmates.
An AK 47, a 9mm pistol, magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
All recovered from this apartment on Ledgewood Boulevard in Dartmouth, Massachusetts - and according to police, all the illegal property of 26 year old John Cassidy, a first year UMass Dartmouth law student.
Cassidy is wanted in Texas on a charge of possessing explosives.
"I've been doing this a long time, I've never heard of anybody fleeing from one location to get a law degree in another," said Dartmouth, MA Police Chief Timothy Lee.
For now John Cassidy has been charged with illegal possession of guns ....

Based on this criteria . . . I'm more dangerous than this guy. If you count the tins of gunpowder at my reloading bench you could get me on the explosives too.

If he's from Texas, I'm kinda surprised he had only one loaded handgun and AK-47 ... but looks like they all may be totally illegal to possess or store there? Maybe he left the others at home? weird

This guy is going to be extradited to Texas for the explosive charges.

Thanks for posting this. As far as naming conventions go, "Dartmouth" alone refers
to the Ivy Leage college in Hanover, NH.
UMass Dartmouth was formerly known as SMU (Southeastern Massachusetts University).
To Texans, SMU refers to Southern Methodist University in Dallas/Park Cities.
SE Massachusetts and Rhode Island contain almost all the people of Portuguese ancestry in the US,
many of them from Cape Verde Island in the Atlantic Ocean. Many of these people are dark
or actually African in skin tone, so if the man arrested has a racism problem, he is in the
midst of many people that he would not like.
Note: Also, most Brazilians who emigrate to the US live in Massachusetts. Why? Because when
the old colonial powers of Spain and Portugal divvied up the new world, Spain got most of Central
America and South America. Portugal got Brazil, and that's why Brazil is the only country in
South America where Portuguese is the dominant language instead of Spanish. So when
Brazilians come to the US, Mass. is their destination since they can find others who speak their
native lingo.
As far as his Texas connection goes, he is from Montgomery County (Conroe area), which is
the county just to the north of Harris County (Houston).

That's it? I'm kind of embarrassed that they're saying this guy is from Texas. He should have a least a couple more rifles and a shotgun.

When they're on the lam, some people prefer to travel light.

Well, there was quite a flaw in his plans. Taking weapons and ammo to one
of the most anti states in the US wasn't too smart.
Of course he had an anger problem (with the roommate) and he drew attention
to himself.
This guy doesn't sound like a good candidate for continued weapons ownership.

Yeah I had to leave the UMass off to get Texas in .... didn't all fit on the title line
Umass Dartmouth student arrested gun charges wanted in Texas
But then again, all them Northern anti-gun States' Colleges look alike to me.
