A couple days ago an acquaintance told me his sister lives in Pearland and she is moving because of a vast increase in drive by shootings and home invasions.

What the heck happened to cause this?

Pearland used to be a find place to live...

It's not just there. I live in a nice area too, but we have still had home invasions, thefts, car break ins, etc more in the last two years than ever before. Even horses are being stolen. When the squeeze hit the economy, more people turned to drugs and alcohol. The drugs are driving crime and the upswing in meth from our neighbors south of us isn't helping.

Grew too big for its britches. It used to be a more rural area, smaller town feel, but near the big city. Maybe twenty years ago. Now the city is trying to make it into a huge suburban and urban area (see the lofts in that pearland town center out west?). More money for the RE developers on city council, less safety and convenience for the people who live here. I'm ditching my house here next month.

Dude that is the HEB right in between Shadow Creek Ranch and Silverlake, both of which are very nice subdivisions. It's the HEB I sometimes go to.... gotta make sure the 1911 is cleaned and lubed.....
I think there are some neighborhoods north east of the WalMart that attract the criminal element...
