In the video the victim talks about how she thought she was aware of her surroundings but really wasn't.

Well folks, it is that time of year.
What does the suspect we're looking for look like, anybody other than Ms. Metcalf know?![headscratch :headscratch](./images/smilies/headscratch.gif)

Well, it's all on camera. Where are those CSI guys with the super-enhancement software?Oldgringo wrote:What does the suspect we're looking for look like, anybody other than Ms. Metcalf know?

(Actually, as long as the car was sitting still, there should be plenty of frames to get a much better picture from frame stacking. Not much chance of a unique ID, but maybe they could get a solid make/model.)

Of course they know who and what the suspect looks like. My sarcastic question was directed to the PC nonsense of not providing a description of the BG on TV.

I'm happy this woman is alive to tell the authorities what the suspect looks like. I saw the video on the tv this morning and it looked like she was in the "White Zone" to me. I hope the law catches this scumbag before he seriously hurts someone.

Re: Pearland - Walmart - Woman Robbed @ gunpoint
The scary part is how quickly the robbery went down. Assuming that the tape didn't alter the timing, the BG must have targeted the victim as she walked toward her car by driving around because he was on her in a few seconds. I doubt that I would have given a single guy, driving a small truck down the driveway behind me the attention that it deserved in this case.
Under the lessons learned from this poor woman's experience, what is the right answer? Don't walk directly to your vehicle if your walk parallels a driving alley? From a safety standpoint, I try to never park where I have to back out but he blocked her vehicle with his so I'm not sure it would have helped if her vehicle had been facing the opposite direction.
I've been out shopping many evenings recently and have been super attentive to what was going on around me. I doubt that I would have picked up on this one regardless of that.

"White" is a lot of people's heightened state. "Transparent" or "brain dead" better describes their normal state. Something similiar happened the other day at the Target store in Beaumont; two women blocked the victim's car with theirs, one got out with a gun and robbed the woman they had blocked in.

It's gotten to where if someone blocks my car in, even if it doesn't look intentional, my hand goes to the gun. This MO is just getting too popular.MoJo wrote:"White" is a lot of people's heightened state. "Transparent" or "brain dead" better describes their normal state. Regardless of how many guns you may be totin', can you think of anyplace or anytime that you're more vulnerable to evil than when you're stashin' your goodies in your vehicle. Think hard now.

Yes, when I'm buckling my very young children into their child safety seats.Oldgringo wrote:Regardless of how many guns you may be totin', can you think of anyplace or anytime that you're more vulenerable to evil than when you're stashin' your goodies in your vehicle. Think hard now.
This is why the ban on CHL at any school (not just a university) infuriates me.

Picking up my children from the gun-free "safety" of their school is hands down the most dangerous and vulnerable part of my day.

This is very distrubing. I live right near this walmart and go to it alot unfortunately. I hate going there especially after work since i am not carrying while at the office. This morning, by pure luck, i finally threw a holster that i can put on easily for my glock (kind of like an AIWB) into my car. No more going to Walmart unarmed. I didnt see the video of the robbery incident until just now.

Re: Pearland - Walmart - Woman Robbed @ gunpoint
Even had this lady been armed, she probably would have had the same problem. This was all about being aware of what's happening around you. I doubt she would have been able to take a firearm out from her purse or holster given the way this guy surprised her. But, if she had been paying attention and was also armed, she could have defended herself by being on alert before he appeared in her window.
As said above, pay attention, and seeing that car park there would have had me get my gun ready. I probably would get out of the car too.
Staying in your car is a death trap, so get out if you can.

Re: Pearland - Walmart - Woman Robbed @ gunpoint
what I made a habbit of doing when walking from the store to my car, is not going down the lane my car is parked on but the one just next to it, so if some one was following me down the lane, when I got into my car they would be infront of me with a car inbetween me and him.chasfm11 wrote:The scary part is how quickly the robbery went down. Thats why I insist on our family shopping in pairs. One to load and one to watch.Oldgringo wrote:Regardless of how many guns you may be totin', can you think of anyplace or anytime that you're more vulnerable to evil than when you're stashin' your goodies in your vehicle. Think hard now.
