MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) – Police in McKinney have notified all of the residents in town to be aware of a spike in residential burglaries. There’s been 22 break-ins at houses since the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Deputy Chief Kim Malolepszy says many of the burglaries were forced entries through a rear door or window. In some cases the thieves came into the garage and house through an open garage door.
In addition to the residential burglaries, vehicle burglaries have also spiked. There’s been 160 motor vehicle burglaries in the last 60 days.
Police say there’s been no arrests and the thieves are looking for jewelry, money, electronics, gift cards and anything else of value.

We have had 5 residential daytime burglaries in our neighborhood in the past 2 months alone. Entries are just like described above. I really recommend making sure you have an alarm system with glass break or motion sensors and use them. If you don't have the sensors then they will never trip your alarm if they come through a door glass and never open the door.

Which do you think would be a bigger deterrent to a thief? A car that looks like it is full of junk or an impeccably cleaned and empty car?

The messy car is more likely to have something, but what it has is more likely to be lower valued and to take too long to find.
The clean car is less likely to have something, but what it has is more likely to be higher valued and quickly snatched.
