In Chicago Friday a 19-year-old parolee whose felony record goes back three years allegedly burglarized a car. While a police evidence technician was processing the scene, the alleged burglar allegedly returned and allegedly fatally shot the police officer and the owner of the vehicle, both of whom were armed.

Boy, gun control is working out really well for Mayor Daley. Five officers murdered this year in the city with no guns.

What would be interesting to know is what kind of sentence Willis - gets if he is convicted. Aside from the obstruction of justice charge, he's in for the same charge that any of us would get for carrying in Chicago. I'd be willing to bet money that he walks - no jail time. I doubt if any of the rest of us would fare as well.

To me, it isn't just that they won't let us legally carry a gun in Chicago or IL. It is that the judicial system lets guys like Willis off. After all, we really don't want to punish the real BGs now do we?

On the macro level, there is a similar thought process regarding "rogue" nations. We don't want to do anything to make the crazy people do anything crazy. Examples can be seen in world reactions to - North Korea, Iran, Somali pirates, etc...

It's always easier to pursue the law abiding, because they follow the law and don't go all crazy.

IMO, that is why it is difficult to determine for sure if relaxing gun laws really helps crime. The attitude it takes to remove gun control laws generally also is for tougher sentencing and less tolerance for repeat offenders.
