Sucks to visit a country were you can't legally defend your self and a criminal who doesn't care about laws kills you.

This irks me to no end.

“The drug wars are a transitional phenomenon in as much as suppliers in Mexico seek to meet the demand in the U.S.,” said Neil Foley, an associate professor in history. “And ultimately the solution will require long term cooperation between both Mexico and the U.S.”

A transitional phenomenon? Only an idiot professor could come up with such a ridiculous explanation for what's going on in Mexico. The truth is that the Mexican government is so corrupt that it cannot even maintain peace in its own country. If Americans weren't buying drugs "manufactured" in Mexico, the violence in Mexico would not stop. It's part and parcel of a country in which palm-greasing is universal. It's been going on for years and has only recently escalated due to the cartel wars. Americans traveling to Mexico have been getting extorted, kidnapped and murdered for as far back as I can remember (and that's about six decades). Google Matamoros if you don't believe me.

Hard to believe any part of Mexico is a “region of extreme risk” since it has such strict gun control laws. A person could get 5 to 20 years in prison for having a single bullet.

It's basically all a "gun-free zone" so I'd feel safe there in any part of Mexico.
