In Newfoundland, Canada, in 2006, a 45-year-old American woman from Pennsylvania allegedly shot her husband to death while bear hunting. The shooting occurred at dusk.

The crown charged her with manslaughter or negligent homicide (I'm not clear on the details of Canadian law). After a trial that was highly publicized in Canada and Pennsylvania, the defendant was found not guilty.

Bottom line, sounds like a very unfortunate accident. It all falls back to knowing your target before firing.
