Houston: Kick-in burglars stopped by resident

#1

Post by seamusTX »

In Houston near Moonmist and Fondren (iffy neighborhood) at about 8 A.M. today, a husband, wife, and infant were in their apartment when two men broke down the door. The resident fatally shot one "suspect." The other suspect ran away. Police recovered the robbers' firearm and burglary implement.

"A second suspect got away."
Very sad. :cryin

"Police have no motive at this time."
If someone breaks into an occupied residence, their motives are probably evil.

I think it's the cops' way of saying that the burglary was not gang- or drug-related.

As I said, that is an iffy neighborhood.

No arguments here. It's a couple of blocks from what used to be Sharpstown Mall.

The odd thing is that if you go there during the day, it looks OK. But the "service calls" are through the roof.

It's not like western Beechnut, where I no longer have a reason to go.

It's funny, I grew up 1 block from Beechnut, thought it was the biggest freeway we ever saw at the time, we'd say "go play on Beechnut"instead of "go jump in a lake" because a car went by every hour or two. I was riding my bicycle all over Houston. Funny seeing those "new subdivisions" out at Fondren and Sharpstown Mall area being called iffy neighborhood and remembering when It was a new mall, but then, we used to ride bikes out to where the Galleria is now ,,,to see cows too, and ride in the bayous down to Herman Park zoo... I like what Houston was ... Still, I don't miss what Houston has become since I left it. I'd be afraid to drive through most areas where I used to live and work anymore there.

The same thing happened in Chicago. The places where my high-school friends lived and I used to ride my bike are now like suburbs of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, with the same kind of violence.

I like the part where the police mentioned that the thugs may have made a mistake by targeting the wrong apartment. I tend to agree. Glad the residents came out unscathed.

The way the break in happened, it seems that they were not looking for money, rather to kill someone.

The "kill" part might have come after something less speakable.

I lived and worked in and around Houston for 16 years. I spent 15 years of that time looking for something somewhere else. :cryin

I did make it out in 94. Only go back now to visit.

These home invasions are the very reason I bought my first gun about 10 years ago. Thanks to the resident for making Houston a little cleaner.

Couldn't they just have called the police. That way nobody would have gotten hurt. It is clear that they just mistakenly went to the wrong appartment. Besides the cops would have been there in 20 to 30 minutes. Everyone would have just shook hands, played mamby pamby and been BFF's.
Gun control is like stopping drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to drive.
